Moray (Elginshire) / Episcopal Baptisms - Elgin
« on: Tuesday 12 July 16 10:02 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone by any chance have a copy of Elgin Episcopal Church Baptisms 1721-1740; 1780-1855 compiled by Stuart Farrell?  I am interested in what it says on a baptism that took place on March 22 1789 of a child called Robert Banks (Source Elgin OPRs).  If someone has consulted this book before, do they remember if the Episcopal Church gives both parents' names or just the father?  Many thanks.

Addition: just a thought, the March date in the OPRs could be the date of entry, i.e. the Episcopalian baptism could have taken place earlier in the year.

Essex / Buckingham Road Cemetery
« on: Monday 30 May 16 20:02 BST (UK)  »
I'm not sure if I should post this in Essex or Greater London so apologies if it's in the wrong section.

I am looking for monumental inscriptions from the Buckingham Road Cemetery in Ilford and wondered if anyone had access to them.  Specifically, I am looking for:

Ernest Jago d. 1936 Blean Kent, long term headmaster of the Valentine School in Ilford.
Lucy Ann Jago, nee Hugo, his wife d. 1930 Romford
Isabel Sarah Clibborn, nee Jago, their daughter, died 1933 in Ilford - definitely in Buck. Rd.
Henry Ernest Fairley Clibborn, her son, died 1982, Oxford - definitely next to his mother.
Raymond Hugo Clibborn, her son and a very long shot, died 1960 Salisbury.

Thanks for any assistance

Durham / Sunderland marriage
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone find the marriage records of John Miller for me, please.
I believe he was married to a Margaret, one of two possibles:
1. John Miller 13th Nov 1785 to Margaret Craggs, Sunderland Holy Trinity, or
2. John Miller 29th Dec 1787 to Margaret Taylor, Sunderland Holy Trinity
.

Possible children baptised in the Robinson Lane NC (the Scotch Presbyterean Chapel) are:
Margaret Miller 1786
John Miller 1790
Peter Miller 1791
James Miller 1793
Anne Miller 1795

He died in 1796 age 47 but didn't leave a will (that I could find which probably means there is one right in front of my face!) to help with identifying his wife.

I'd be very grateful if someone could dig out the originals so that I could see if any witnesses leap out at me.  Many thanks.

Cornwall / Possible Marriage
« on: Saturday 07 November 15 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking, so far unsuccessfully, for a marriage for Richard Peters (b. 1596 St Enoder: d. 1656 St Enoder).
He is the son of Nicholas Peeter (spelling on his will 1626 St Enoder).
I have come across a possible 1626 Richard Peeter to a Jane Francis in St Minver - not too far away.
There are no other Francis marriages up to the mid 1600s in St Minver, burials ditto and the only Francis birth is for a Richard, son of John, in 1602 with the note that he is a Welshman.  Francis is obviously not a local parish name in the 16th and first half of the 17thC.
There are a couple of burials for Jane Peters in St Enoder, 1644 and 1656, which would fit but there is also a Jane Peters burial in St Minver, a widow, in 1658.
There are a few Peters baptisms, marriages and burials in St Minver for the period but no Richards apart from the above marriage to Jane Francis.
Richard Peters' 1656 will details bequests to his children and sons in law but no mention of a wife so he is likely to have survived her which would discount the St Minver burial but could fit with either of the Jane Peters' burials mentioned above.

What do you think?  Is it too big a leap to assume that this is the marriage for which I have been looking?

Durham / William Nixon
« on: Sunday 25 October 15 23:36 GMT (UK)  »
I was hoping someone would be able to give me more details on the baptism below found on Family Search:

6th April, 1797, William Nixon to parents John Nixon and Agnes baptised at the Robinson Lane NC and St Georges Church in Sunderland which is the Scottish Presbyterean church in the area.

I am wondering if he is a son to John Nixon (b. Fermanagh, Ireland circa 1778, weaver in Glasgow and then soldier with the West Lowland Fencibles/3rd Fencible Regiment from 1793, headquartered in Glasgow but served in Sunderland in about 1796) and his wife Agnes Watson.  I have been unable to find any further information on the boy, he may have died young, or a marriage for John and Agnes.

Thanks

Cornwall / Malachy Benalacke
« on: Tuesday 13 October 15 20:16 BST (UK)  »
I have a birth for my 9xG Grandfather Sampson Bennalacke in 1615, son of Malachy, St Ewe Parish.  To be honest, I am stunned to have got so far back.  I have noticed on a couple of sites to which I don't have access that some trees have a birth of 1580 for Malachy/Malachi Bennalacke/Benallack/Benhallick.  I can't find any record to substantiate this.  Can anyone suggest where I might look for corroboration?

Cornwall / Jacob Francis
« on: Friday 09 October 15 00:42 BST (UK)  »
I have a Jacob Francis marrying a Sycily (various spellings) Peters 1695-1772 in St Enoder in 1715.  Sycily is buried in St Enoder.  I have no birth or death for Jacob.  However, I have noticed 2 wills on the Cornwall Council site:

Will of Jacob Francis the younger of St Enoder 1748
Will of Jacob Francis of St Enoder 1762
These are only 14 years apart so I am tentatively pencilling in "the younger" as the son of the other.

There is a burial for a Jacob Francis on 23 Sept 1748 in St Enoder.
There is also a burial for a Jacob Francis on 26th June 1762 in the parish of Antony, affadavit received.

Can anyone suggest a way that I can find out which is the husband of Sycily?

Cornwall / Simon Hugo
« on: Thursday 08 October 15 10:10 BST (UK)  »
I have Simon Hugo in the 1861 census, Lower Bore St, Bodmin married to Lucy Ann Hewitt Branch.
I have both of their births 1816 Kenwyn and 1820 St Endellion respectively and their marriage in 1836.
I have a death for Lucey Hugo, aged 47, in 1868 from the Dissenters Burying Ground Register with a note that she is Wesleyan.

In the 1871 Census, Simon Hugo of Bodmin (definitely the right one - children all match) is married to a Sarah, 41, schoolmistress, born Somerset Bristol.  I can't find a record of this marriage.  Can anyone help?

Addition.  There is a Simon Hugo marriage in Bristol in 1869 but I don't have the bride's name.

I am trying to find the maiden name of Robert Banks Senior's wife Isabella.   Robert Snr died in 1864 and Isabella in 1851, both in Newcastle.  Bearing in mind that they were both born in Scotland, I have tried Scottish records but can't find a marriage for Robert Banks with an Isabella.  All the children were born in Newcastle so I'm wondering if they married down there.  Can anyone help please.  Thanks.
