Lancashire / William Crean Buried 31/1/1964, no Death Registration?
« on: Friday 15 December 23 22:57 GMT (UK)  »
There is a burial record for William Crean in Ford Cemetery, Liverpool, on 31/1/1964.
This is presumably William Crean, born 1877 in Oulart, Co. Wexford, and living in Liverpool with his family on the 1911 census. This seams clear as he was buried in the same grave as William's son Aidan Peter Crean, killed in October 1940 in a Luftwaffe bombing raid on Liverpool  However, I can't find any death or probate record to match the above burial record for William

Ireland / Missing Marriage/1901 Census for William Crean & Ellen Murphy
« on: Friday 15 December 23 06:56 GMT (UK)  »
I just can't seem to find a marriage for this couple, William Crean and Ellen Murphy. Neither can I find them as a couple, or him, in the 1901 census.

William  was born in the Oulart district, 10 Mar 1877. Ellen is also stated to be born Oulart on 1911 English census.

1 Oct 1901 they have a daughter Mary, born Market Sq. Enniscorthy, father publican.
9 Apr 1903 they have a son Richard, also born Market Sq. Enniscorthy, father shopkeeper.

They have at least two further children, born Liverpool, and are in Liverpool in the 1911 census, where the father is, much to my astonishment, now listed as a laborer, married 10 years.

But no sign of a marriage, anywhere in Ireland, or England either. Or in the 1901 census.

Note that both William and Ellen appear in several *incorrect* Ancestry family trees, so don't rely on those!

The Common Room / Can One Name The Author(s) of Books/Publications/Newsarticles?
« on: Wednesday 06 December 23 06:23 GMT (UK)  »
Over the years I have noticed that there seems to be a very strict interpretation of the rule against naming living persons. So what about referencing books or articles? Usually such a reference should include the author and year of publication. Is this banned on Rootschat?

The Common Room / Copying ALL Data From Other Ancestry Family Tree Account?
« on: Wednesday 06 December 23 05:48 GMT (UK)  »
On Ancestry I maintain and own a family tree for one branch of my family.
For another branch, I collaborate with a cousin, and contribute as an editor to a family tree she owns and controls. While this has been convenient, I think the time has come for me to make a copy of the joint portion of this family tree, and transfer to one I own.

Now I know one can transfer individual records from other Ancestry trees. But I would like to transfer ALL the data - media, comments, links, etc. - for half of an entire family tree. Is that possible? How does one go about that? Does it have to be done piecemeal, or can the entire transfer be accomplished in one go?

Ireland / Familysearch Location for Civil Registration District Was Abolished in 1637!
« on: Saturday 02 December 23 02:54 GMT (UK)  »
I was just looking at a result on Familysearch from the Civil registration Indices. Namely:

Patrick G Ryan
Ireland Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958
Birth Registration from April 1948 to June 1948
County of the Cross of Tipperary, Ireland

Notice anything odd about this result? Very odd?
Yes, it's the location, the "County of the Cross of Tipperary". Said county was abolished in 1637, over 300 years before the 1948 birth!

And just to be sure, to be sure, it was abolished again in 1715!

So, where is the actual location? Tipperary? Clonmel? Who knows.... these guys are so crazy I don't know what to say.

Ireland / An Oddity - Latin Entry in 1947 Civil Marriage Registration!
« on: Saturday 02 December 23 01:44 GMT (UK)  »
So, not just in parish registers! Look at the first marriage in the following link.

I will leave the meaning as an exercise for the student!

Mark of a quality family.  :)

Ireland / When did the Format of Death Registrations Change?
« on: Thursday 23 November 23 00:36 GMT (UK)  »
As we are usually painfully aware, historic death registrations were sparse affairs, with such minimal information that it is all too often unclear if it is the correct person, or not.
Modern death registrations, however, are quite different, requiring DOB and place of birth, parents names, name of spouse, etc.

So, when was this change made?

England / English GRO Digital Images - Not for Marriages?
« on: Wednesday 22 November 23 21:40 GMT (UK)  »
Am I correct that digital images are only available for births and deaths, but not for marriages?
Why is this?
Also, I wonder why is there a charge for English digital images, when BDM images are all freely available from the GRO in Ireland?
