Thanks both again, very much.

I will try to look it up myself, thanks, and let you know how I go!

Very exciting. I don't think any of my family knows anything about the Rhodes / Watson side at all.

Thank you both so very much, mckha489 and crisane, that's a lot for me to work with.

I'm just about to read the piece on the Reverend; I do have a bit of info. on him but this looks good! Funny how family is never mentioned; he went on to be Mayor, too and I know from stories my grandfather told my dad, it was something that involved the whole family. My grandfather didn't like living such a public life; it's one of the reasons that he moved to Australia.

mckha489, may I please ask where you found the marriage information?

Thank you both again, so much. This gives me a lot to do on this quiet Sunday afternoon.

Good morning from Adelaide, South Australia.

I'm hoping that someone will help me, please.

I'm trying to find the maiden name and possibly birth details of Caroline WATSON.

In the 1881 England & Wales Census - Caroline Watson,  she is found in Bradford, (p. 155), living as a widow with sons Ernest, aged 6, and Harry, aged 4. Both boys listed as born in Bradford, Caroline born in Birstall. Her age is given as 26 at the time, so she would be born around 1855.

Caroline, my great-grandmother, married my great-grandfather, Rev. Andrew Fuller MILLS, in Wales in around 1884.

I'd like to find her maiden name possibly the full name of her WATSON husband, along with the birth details of her boys, if possible. I believe that her maiden name may be RHODES, but I don't have any actual citation for that; I tend to be a sporadic in my genealogy research and I feel like every time I come back to it, I have forgotten what I knew before! I have tried searching birth records through A*cestry, but getting hopelessly lost.

Any help, or direction, would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much,
M.

I'm glad to know that my Ancestry info is safe and will be accessible even without a subscription, thanks, KGarrad.

uk4753, I have somehow managed to download both Family Tree Maker and Legacy. Unfortunately FTM is the 2012 version and I don't seem to be able to update it to 2019, so I can't upload between FTM and Ancestry. I will keep trying; I have a couple of other ideas to get it updated.

Many thanks to you both; I have real trouble in being organised, so your help means more than you know.

Australia / Trees - Leg*cy 9.0 and *ncestry
« on: Saturday 10 October 20 02:31 BST (UK)  »
I get very tangled in trees and all of my bits and pieces of research, and tend to be obsessed with family history for a while and then leave it for months or even years at a time.

I'd been trying to work out if I should use the Legacy system I had downloaded or just keep my tree on Ancestry and I wanted to check; if I let go of my Ancestry subscription, am I still able to access the tree I have built there? I am assuming that links to records found within Ancestry would not work, but would the tree remain?

Sorry to have been on here over the years for so long and still be struggling with the basics! I want to use Ancestry but don't know if I'm better to build a tree on Legacy and attempt to transfer records from there to Ancestry if that makes sense? I've never done the GEDCOM thing so not sure how it works.

Thanks to anyone who responds who can make sense of what I'm saying  :-[.

Hi samantha74,

I am usually receiving rather than giving assistance, but will give it a go!

There is a Patrick Joseph HUGHES buried at Centennial Park cemetery in Pasadena, South Australia, but according to the cemetery website and Find a Grave, birth and death dates are unknown, but he lived at Athelstone and was 52 when he died. It could be worth emailing the cemetery to see if any other information is available. I have no idea how or why there would be no birth or death date recorded.

There is an SA death index for a Patrick Joseph HUGHES, death date 6 Jun 1966, but it gives no other details. They could be the same person.

To be honest, there are buckets of people with this name! I see from the article about the maintenance order that he originated from Broken Hill. He may have returned there. I am mainly looking at the SA info.

It could be worth checking the National Archives for a military service record; it's also possible that he changed his name to avoid his arrest.

Do you have any other details? Age at marriage? Children's names? Any little snippets might help, and hopefully might trigger better research than mine. Good luck!

Jamjar, thank you so much for your help; the birth and enrolment details are especially handy.

I have had a search around, but can't find the death notice; I have tried Trove but it doesn't go up to that date, but I see that it is on Ryerson's I think.

Do you have the full death notice or are you able to direct me to it please?

Many, many thanks.

Australia / Fay MASCHMEDT / LAMBERT / KITTO
« on: Monday 18 November 19 00:46 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning,

I am trying to find birth, death, marriage and children's birth information for:

Fay MASCHMEDT, b. 6 May 1943 (in South Australia we believe)

Fay died in January of 2017 or 2018.

We believe she married twice, firstly to an A LAMBERT and later to R KITTO.

Is anyone able to assist please? I don't have a death certificate, hence the lack of certainty about the year, but can apply for one in need. Fay wasn't buried, she was cremated and remains returned to her family.

Thank you in advance.

M.
