Ayrshire / Re: Agnes Currie died 1855 buried coylton churchyard
« on: Saturday 27 February 16 22:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Marilyn,
I tried to attach 2 pictures of the grave but was told they were too big. Would  you mind PMing me an email address as I am not good at making pictures smaller. The inscription of the grave reads:

"Here lies the remains of ADAM CURRIE East Farm in Ochiltree who died 12 May 1815 age 77"

I found Adam wife's DC but not one for him. His son William 1771-1858 was my 3x great grandfather. I have his DC naming Adam and Janet as his parents  but I cannot find a record of birth/baptism. I think William's siblings were: John 1767-1846, Agnes of course, Charles 1777-1851 and Adam 1781-1847. For those siblings who died before 1854 it is often difficult to prove parentage. Each of Adam's sons except John named his first son Adam. Do I have the right John in my records? On his baptism records he is the son of Adam Currie of Brydon Town Ochiltree. No mother is mentioned. I believe Adam Currie's (1738-1815) father was a John Currie. Once again no name for the mother. Please feel free to suggest corrections.
Regards, Nan

Hello,
I don't believe there is a gravestone/inscription for Agnes. There is however one for her father, Adam Currie b 1738 and died 1815. The stone is difficult to read but my cousin did a rubbing and was able to decipher it. Do  you have this already?
Adam was my 4th great grandfather. How is he related to you? I believe we have been in touch before but were unable at that time to find a connection. Hopefully Adam / Agnes are mutual ancestors.

Renfrewshire / Re: Is anyone researching the Langs of Renfrewshire?
« on: Monday 22 February 16 14:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Steven from Melbbourne,
It was interesting to hear from you. I did a quick check on my Langs to see if we were connected. My only "James" who could have been the father of Agnes timewise never married, however I still have many gaps on secondary branches of my tree. The only Agnes I have in that time period was the daughter of a John Lang and Margaret Paterson. She like many of my Langs was born in Renfrewshire. (10 Jul 1815) There is a possibility that we are connected  but I haven't found it yet unfortunately.
If you do find a connection, please let me know and I'll do the same.
Regards, Nan

Hello lyoung03,
I took a quick look at my tree but didn't find an Elizabeth Lang that fit into that time period unfortunately. Elizabeth is certainly a name that appears frequently. My Langs were sometimes found in Greenock but more often in Houston and Killelan or Gourock. There is likely a remote connection but I can't see it yet. Too bad. I would love to connect with another Lang descendant.

Noticed this today. Maybe someone will be able to find when/how family came to Canada. I have found a few records but many seem to be missing.
Happy hunting, Nan

Thank you for telling us about this free weekend, Jess5athome. I was able to find records for a few members of my family in both Scotland and England. I was about to buy a new subscription to ancestry when I read news of the freebie. I will still subscribe to ancestry but not until I have sorted the new records I found.
