Thanks so much Merlin for the Thomas Taylor information   :).  I'm assuming that the death record is a victorian record?  Wow, will have to follow up on the death info.  I have been trying to find this info for 12 years!! So greatfully appreciated!

Thanks again

Australia / Re: What happened to Catherine GREHAN

thanks for the information Ros, will look at the link.  I wonder if it is the same Catherine you mentioned in regards to the death info.  My Catherine parent's are Patrick and Rose Grehan.  So it doesn't look like the same Catherine.  Thanks for replying to me.

I am having great difficulty in finding the marriages or deaths of my Thomas and William TAYLOR.  They are brothers.  Thomas was born in Geelong, Victoria 26 October 1846 and William was born in Geelong in 1851.  Their parents are John TAYLOR and Mary TAYLOR nee ALDERTON.  Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Australia / What happened to Catherine GREHAN
« on: Wednesday 26 October 11 01:23 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find what happened to Catherine GREHAN.  She was born in Tasmania about 1834.  Her parents are Patrick and Rose.  The Grehan surname has many alternatives GREHAM, GRAHAM, GRENAN, GRENNAN.  Patrick and Rose moved with their children to Geelong, Victoria.  I have been unable to find any information apart from Catherine's birth.  I am also looking for the youngest brother of Catherine - Joseph Francis GREHAN.  He was born in 1850 Geelong, Victoria.  In my records I have that Joseph died around 1861, but I haven't been able to confirm this information.  Any information or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Australia / Re: David MILLAR - Melbourne General Cemetery

Hi David

I apologise for the late reply.  I haven't been on this site for awhile.  I am hoping to go to the cemetery this weekend or in the next few weeks.  I will have a look for you.  If it is possible can you give me a general direction where the section is located.  Eg. for instance the grave I visit is at the far end of the cemetery.  I can't remember the street name that runs along the rear of the cemetery off Lygon Street.  I hope the office is open if I have any difficulty.  Best wishes with your research and hopefully I will get the information you require.
Regards, Vanessa Taylor

I am unsure what happened to my William TAYLOR, he was apparently born 1851 in Cowies Creek, Victoria.  His parents are John TAYLOR and Mary Anne ALDERTON (Mary Anne has been spelt many ways including just Mary, Marianne etc).  I am hoping to find out what happened to him.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks
Vanessa

Hi

Was wondering how you have been going with your inscription.  Do you mean the Old Melbourne Cemetery?  I am planning to go there sometime.  I go there every now and then to pay respect to a few of my ancestors.

Thanks
Vanessa

Thanks for your reply Crisane.  Ellen was born in 1868 in Lara, Victoria.  I should of mentioned that.  The very limited information from Good Shepard doesn't say that she travelled.  It states that she stayed for the rest of her life until her death in 1942.  I noticed your information says the departure port was Bluff, NZ.  My Taylors lived in Winton.  So it is a possilble port for her to depart from.  Also she was taken into the sisters' care at the age of 14.

Australia / Ellen TAYLOR - Passenger record please and maybe illigitimate child
« on: Thursday 07 July 11 11:02 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that my Ellen Taylor returned to Australia.  She went into the care of the Good Shepard Sisters in 1882, Abbottsford, Melbourne.  The weird thing is that I can't seem to find a passenger record for her from New Zealand to Australia.  I have the passenger record for her travelling to New Zealand with her family in 1877.  The other mystery is that James TAYLOR is supposed to be the youngest brother of Ellen.  However there are no birth records in Australia or New Zealand with the parents Robert and Mary.  James was apparently born around 1882 (calculated from marriage and death certs).  Which is the same year Ellen went into care with the sisters at the age of 14.  Also James' marriage and death certs both state he was born in Melbourne.  Yet his supposedly parents Robert and Mary were in New Zealand at this time.  Can someone please help?
