England / Re: William BLACKWELL born 1821 England

Thank you so much for the assistance it is greatly appreciated  :)  On the marriage certificate it states William living at Church Place and Caroline living at Harrow Road.  His birth date I found in a a family reunion book, so unsure how they came about this info, have tried to get hold of relatives to find out about this info but to no avail and it doesn't look like anyone has researched this line.  I think William Blackwell works out to be my Great Great Great Grandfather (?).  How would I go about finding any information in relation to William's parents and possibly siblings?  I have this Blackwell line in my family and my partner is a Blackwell.  So I'm trying to find out if we are related.

We have no idea if the children are Williams and/or Carolines.  Suzard found the children's baptism/birth info.  In regards to the Workhouse birth records would Caroline have had some connection to the workhouse or did they sometimes just go there to have their babies?  Interesting to see the children with the 'Major' surname in the workhouse records.

Thanks again
Ness

England / William BLACKWELL born 1821 England

I have little information in regards to William Blackwell he died in Greytown, New Zealand in 1860.  His death certificate has practically no info on it.  From his marriage certificate he married Caroline Major in 1856 in Paddington, Middlesex.  There are two children present before their marriage, Sarah Ann and William, with Thomas Henry born in 1860 in NZ.  His father on the marriage certificate is John Blackwell and no profession is stated for John Blackwell.  I have hit a brick wall here.  I haven't been able to find his mother or go further back.  I have no idea of his siblings.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony

Great to hear from you.  Apologies I have not replied sooner.  I am working fulltime and have little time to research.  Yes it would be great if we could confirm a connection.  I am originally from New Zealand, so will be interesting to see where the connection is.

I can't believe it!!!!  Wow - this is so amazing.  Thank you so much Judith and crisane.  I really appreciate this information.  I have been hunting for George's parents but was unsuccessful.  Would it be safe to assume from the 1841 census that Frederick was George's brother?  I wonder where the other members of the family were?  Which is the best way for me to go about finding the other member's of the family?  Eg. try and find the baptism of George and see what other records I may find or try and find a marriage for George's parents?  Also would I have to contact the local family history society/centre to see if there is a baptism record for George Blackwell?  Please advise or direct me to find this information.  You have helped me so much, I don't expect you to keep providing records/information for me, I really appreciate all the assistance and information you have given me.  I will have to let this information sink in over the next day or two as it is getting rather late at night here.  Thanks again - Ness

I have found the marriage for George Blackwell and Harriet Harwood:

Dec 1859
Whitney
3a (unsure what this means)
marriage no:  1129

I'm sure Whitney is in Oxfordshire

Having trouble finding information on George Blackwell before 1859

Did you want to go further back?  This family sure moved around:

1871 census found by Debra shows the family living in Montgomeryshire, Wales but the births show they had lived mostly in England.

George Blackwell   49, Primitive Methodist minister, b Harbury Warwickshire
Harriet Blackwell   38, b Witney, Oxfordshire
George Henry Blackwell   10, b Shefford, Berkshire
Harriet Sarah Blackwell   8, b Hungerford Berkshire
William James Blackwell   7, b Sturminster Newton, Dorsetshire
Frederick Charles Blackwell   5, b Rugby Warwickshire
John Thomas Blackwell   2, b South Molton Devonshire

In 1861 they are in Marlborough Wiltshire.  A daughter Emily,6 b Napton Warwickshire, and a niece Hannah Duckman, 11, b Cleadon Oxfordshire, is with them.

FreeBMD has just gone down so can't look any further tonight.

Judith

Oh, wow this is excellent, yes I would love to go further back if possible.  Thank you so much  :)

Wow, thanks for all the information.  Exactly what I have been looking for  :)  I had no idea they would have come from Wales.  I was looking at England.  In regards to 1881 the Blackwell family were in Canada as I found the census information the same as Crisane had found.  George must of been doing some labouring work in Canada.  Have contacted the church over in Canada to see if they have information on George, so will be interesting if they find anything in their archives.  I found some information on a person's family tree page with the same information.  They noted that William James Blackwell had gone to Australia.  Ros you must be correct with the death information.  Thanks judb for the burial info.  Going through my info and have Harriet's maiden name as Harwood but wasn't 100% sure.  It seems to fit in with the other information I have.  Will have to verify with a certificate.  In regards to an Eva Alice Beecham maybe that is a possible 3rd wife??  From memory there was a death notice on Trove for his 2nd wife.  Which Ros, you kindly posted the link.  Thanks Dundee and Crisane.  Thanks for the Wales info.  Will try to have a search myself on ancestry, if for some reason I can not find it I might message you if that is ok.  This is becoming so interesting and thank you to everyone for helping place the pieces into my puzzle.
