Yes, it looks that way.

Thank you both for your help in finding out some info for me!

Hello Shaun & Monica - interesting stuff!  So do you think this 'bottle manufacturing' was run as a home business rather than the size of a factory? It appears that 12 was a residential address? Nina

Hello!  I'm not having much luck so far, so I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me find out some info about Poulton Bottle Manufacturers based at 12 Galleywall Road, Bermondsey, London?

My Granddad worked as a Bottle Washer and I have just purchased the 1921 Census and now I have the name and address of his employer - as above.  I have looked at a few old maps but none have buildings numbered, but I think it was possibly the same side and end of the road as the cocoa factory called W S Shuttleworth & Co (and that is only based on the fact that a more modern map shows that even numbers are on that side, starting at the Southwark Park Rd end).

Many thanks, Nina

Berkshire / Springfield House, Alma Road, Windsor

Hello Everyone ... I was wondering if someone out there might have any photos of Springfield House, Alma Road, Windsor?  It was also numbered as 95 Alma Road, and was built around 1859 and demolished in approx 1962 to make way for some modern flats called Hatton Court, which still stand on the site today (on the corner of Alma Road and Springfield Road).

I have found a b&w drawing online by a lady called Phyllis Floud who lived in the house in the 1940s for a short while, but have been unable to find any photos from any era.  I have not attached the drawing as I am unsure re copyright issues, but if anyone wants to see it you can type in 'springfield house alma road windsor tapatalk' and the drawing will come up close to the top of the image results in Google.

I have contacted the local history society and asked them various questions regarding the house as I am doing a potted history about it as my friend's relatives lived there years ago, but no joy with any photos.

If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated as we would love to see a proper photo of the house!

Nina

Thank you Arthurk, that certainly looks like a possibility! It’s a shame that so many family photos never have anything written on the back. Nina

Hi Gadget - I spoke to the sundial society a while ago and they liaised with 2 experts in this field (David Miller was one of them - who wrote the article in the link below) who both said it was actually in the Lower Arboretum right through the 1920s and 1930s, and at a later date it was moved - the date of moving is not known, but it was moved to the front of the Wolsey Art Gallery until it fell into disrepair, and was restored and unveiled in 2017.  David Miller sent me a detailed 16 page booklet on the history of this area and the restoration of the sundial, and a photo of the sundial in situ in 1933 in the Lower Arboretum.  It's a shame that the date of the move to the art gallery is not remembered/recorded as this would have helped date the photos to the specific decade.  That's why I then went with the suits that the men were wearing as my father always insisted it was the 1950s but the lady at the sundial society felt it was earlier!  I'm happy to go with the era you suggested, that the photos are from the 1930s.  Many thanks, Nina
