Here is a reference to Moffat the plumber on the new church in 1878.

Wigtownshire / Re: Penninghame/Newton Stewart MILROY

I posted this in another spot but it didn't go into your stream about Milroy. MILROY is mentioned several times in Gordon Fraser's humorous booklet about Wigtown Whithorn and the N-St area.

Wigtownshire / MILROY in Fraser's booklet

A John MILROY was mentioned in Gordon Fraser's booklet about the Wigtown and Newton Stewart area. Also it has ads of merchants. Looked like Milroy was hanged for being on the wrong side of a church split.

I just noticed that you also have MCLEAN  as a second name so it was probably a family name. I do have letters mentioning variations of that name if you are interested.
Lettter from Oct 1864 says "John McClean and his wife are both well but their family scattered likewise." It was from father in Scotland giving news of friends in Scotland. Sorry it did not give more detail but all of these people mentioned lived around the crofts of Baltersan or Clary just a couple of miles south of Newton Stewart.

I have 1800's letters from Newton Stewart and the surrounding crofts but unfortunately they do not mention Moffat or Milroy. I will be glad to look for other surnames.

Australia / Re: Assisted Passage on Largo Bay 1878 (FLEMING - JOHNSTONE)

No matter what I do I can't seem to get results searching the ship passenger lists above. Please help again.

Looking for Elizabeth (Fleming) Johnstone and husband E. H. Johnstone probably coming at the same time as rest of family  --1878 on Largo Bay assisted passage.

thanks so much for finding all of the family. That's what happened to the other daughter--they are listed separately.

I finally got the search results by putting in the list number (i. e. 78/16) and looking through the lists. Still don't know why their name and the ship didn't bring up any records.

I just wanted to make sure Susan Fleming was on the list since your list above had missed her. She was there.
