Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help me as I'm stuck on when an old house in Hartlebury was built & using post ofice directories I've narrowed this down to after 1911 & before 1916 but would love to know the exact date & thank all who read this in advance

Hi There

I was told (by a staff member at the HIVE) on Tuesday last that there is 110 years closure order on the catholic records for St Peters Bromsgrove & that's why the registers are not lodged with the HIVE if that's any help

HI There

You may have difficulties here as a big part of Hartlebury Common was a large gypsy encampment & they even had their own church (chapel) but this ground was built on & is now several housing estates - you could try Hartlebury parish registers for the baptisms but if they were in the gypsy's own church I don't have a clue where its records may be held but its worth trying the HIVE at Worcester to see if they can advise you as to where these records may be

Hi Liz

I come from a long line of Ag Labs & gardeners etc but the only one who did any good years ago was a chap named Charles James Holliday who became Lord High Sherriff of Worcester as well as Bailiff but its nothing to boast about & the only perk is that if you ask they will show you into the rooms where the High Sherriff's names are all round the walls engraved on boards - I went to Worcester Guild hall once & was shown the names but its not what Id call exciting.

I think we all look for someone famous when we start this hobby & find it a bit of a let down when we cant but at least somebody had to work the land & so on so they did a good job but you don't get much praise for digging a hole etc  :)

Hi Liz

You can get Oxfordshire parish registers free on line at Ancestry - if I remember you click on card catalogue then when you get to the next page type Oxfordshire baptisms into the search box or the keyword box I forget which way round it is - one of my main lines is it Oxfordshire, its a market town called Charlbury & the surname is Gomm with several different spellings but the main one is Gomm & a relation of some sort to one of the founders  of G-Plan
