Richard,
Thanks for all the information on the Rivieres. You seem to know a lot about the Huguenots. Last night I found quite a few old books on them available for free download, and have 5 or 6 of them on my computer to look through.
nvb272,
Briton Riviere (1840-1920) was the son of William Riviere (1806-1876), son of Daniel Valentine Riviere (1779-1854). You'll find quite a bit about the Riviere family by searching under "Daniel Valentine Riviere" (who appears to be one of its more famous members, so this search term will tend to turn up other members of the family) on Google, and in Google Books. They are mentioned in art history books, because Daniel Valentine Riviere was a celebrated miniaturist, whose work appears in auctions. He had 12 children, a number of whom were also artists, and his oldest daughter, Anna (9 Jan 1810 - 18 Mar 1884) was a singer who married Henry Rowley Bishop, a well-known English singer in 1831. She died in New York City. This is just one example of a number of biographical entries which turn up online about this family.
