thank you so much for your interest!

I've been ploughing through Sprowston to no avail - I didn't know you it was possible till i received your earlier reply :)

I did have Robert Junior's birth but not death - that's another piece of the puzzle in place but still a long way to go.....

John Denmark :-
baptized 1 Mar 1746 - parents Robert & Mary Denmark
marriage to Elizabeth Palmer 15 Nov 1767
marriage to Mary Dunch 26 May 1784
buried 4 Mar 1804

I haven't found Roberts birth, or marriage to Mary, only his marriage to Elizabeth Harman in 1770 and his death in 1790

possibilities - 1) this Robert wasn't married to a Mary and therefore is not my descendant 2) Denmark Farm was so named after the nearby pub, Robert began life with a different name and became known as Denmark during his tenancy of the farm 3) the pub was named after the farm - not likely because the pub is said to be named after the Prince of Denmark and has a massive engraving/mural of the PofD on the wall (added in 1930)

However, it seems (to me) to be a huge co-incidence that the pub and the farm were directly opposite one another but had different name sources.

I have Robert and Mary as John's parents but then I had Robert's marriage to Elizabeth Harman as a 2nd spouse but perhaps I've got that wrong?

I have lots of info about Denmark Farm from Trevor Nuthall's book The Lazar House. The farm was previously called Magdalen Farm but seems to have changed name during Roberts tenancy. After his death in1790 the farm passed to his son William and the to his son, another William who purchased the farm in 1802.

John Denmark is my 5 x Greatgrandfather but now I'm questioning whether this Robert Denmark is his father.

I'm also researching connections between Denmark farm and the Prince of Denmark Pub which is close by.

Robert Denmark was the tenant at Denmark Farm (aka Magdalen Chapel Farm) in Pockthorpe Norwich from 1748 to his death in 1790. Ge married Elizabeth Harman in 1770 but I cannot find either his birth or his marriage to his first wife Mary. Can anyone help please?

Yes i think we just could be on the right track -the John Allen thing is a huge co-incidence -  I shall try to make further links at the Norfolk Records Office - thank you so much for the tips

Thanks - found him. His age is given as 13 which would make him still a minor when he married Margaret in 1847 and the fact that he's living with a brickmaker could be a link cos it seems to have been the family trade for generations.

Hiiiii, thanks for the welcome Sharon and Heywood - I'm not at all convinced I'm doing this right so apologies If not :P

Sharon, the witnesses at Jacob and Margaret's wedding were John Allen and John Cawston. I can't find Jasper on Ancestry but I'm sure Margaret Bridges is the daughter of Richard and Ann.

Heywood, I think you've definitely found them as Roberson 1851 cos their first child was definitely Mary Ann and would have been 2 years old as given.

You are obviously both so much more experienced at this than me - your help is so appreciated!  ;D ;D
