Antrim / How they lived back then
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 17:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi. Having got almost as far back as I can with my mum's family in Belfast until I get a breakthrough, I would like to pad out my history with how my ancestors lived in Belfast from about 1850 to about 1920. The men all seem to have been Labourers and the women mill workers. How would I find out some general detail to give volume to them
Thanks
Bob

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Military Family in Guernsey
« on: Thursday 13 April 06 19:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi There I have posted something like this before but I now have some more information. Arthur Barham was a SNCO in the Royal Irish Rifles, stationed in Guernsey about 1884 - 1887. During this time his daughter Mabel Barham was born (I think) Her mum was Eleanor (Dudgeon) Barham.
Would anyone be able to do a lookup for me?
Thanks
Bob

Armed Forces / Royal Irish Rifles

Hi, I have an ancestor who served in the Royal Irish Rifles. His name is Arthur Barham and in 1883, he was a Sgt stationed near Dover, then he was a C/Sgt in 1887 near Gosport, Then he was in Co Louth and finally the 1901 census has him in Belfast as a night watchman.
Would anyone be able to tell me what battalion he was in or if he served abroad or if he was entitled to any medals

I know that this is a very BIG ask but can anyone help?
Thanks
Bob

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Mabel Barham
« on: Monday 20 March 06 21:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everybody. I have a relative - Mabel Barham - the 1901 Belfast Census has her born in the Channel Islands in 1886. Family Oral history has it that she was born on board ship on the way back from India, indicating that her father Arthur was a soldier. They went on to live in Belfast. Would anyone be able to do a look up for me?
