Thanks, Jim for your opinion. My grandfather was a steward on a merchant marine ship so this would fit his profile. I will repost the photo with another one of him that I think you may have already seen and will ask people whether it could be the same man. I would value your opinion on this. I will mark this post as completed and am hopefully allowed to repost the same photo, with different name. I believe that this could be my grandfather when he was younger than the other photo as in the other one he had a receding hairline though this would put the photo at pre 1916 when you say it is after this. It could be one of my grandfather's brothers. Thank you!

Hi Colm   I can't help you out with what you are asking for but I must comment that the man in the centre is a dead ringer for my father (whose family comes from county Kildare, not far from Dublin), surname McKay and I mean a dead ringer. I can tell you that if your relative is the man in the centre then the older men look nothing like the man in the centre aged (if I compare to my father). I will attach two photos of him to show you. By the way do you have McKay as a family name anywhere in your tree? PS Dad is aged 89 in this photo. May I ask which of the two men are your relatives?

Hi I copied this photo from one of my cousin's albums but no one knows who this person is nor when it was taken, so we would appreciate some help! It is possible that it is a photo of my grandfather, Edwin James Aldred born in Manchester in 1895 but I don't think that it is. My grandfather was in the merchant marines travelling on ships around Australia when he met and fell in love with my grandmother, after which he jumped ship. If anyone could help with identifying what this uniform is, it may provide some clues. Thanks! Deb  :)

Thank you, Loord74 and Peter! Carol, when I am able to copy this photo again, I will repost it (won't be until March though that I see my cousin again to copy it).
Thank you also Pablo59 for adding another dimension to the photo by creating a different and interesting background. Rootschat is lucky to have so many talented people!  :) :) :) Deb

Thank you also, Peter for your great restores in black and white and sepia. It's lovely to be able to see the photo without the tears, intact. I will pass these on to the family of the woman who was the baby in the photo (ie my cousins), if I have your permission as well as Loord74's permission. Thanks so much.  :)

Thank you, Loord74. You have done a lovely job. Yes, I am sorry about the quality of the photo. I will try to get a copy of the original. What you have done is great though, thank you so much.   :) Deb

Yes this is the same lovely lady. FYI here is a photo of my paternal grandmother (Dixon) and two of her sisters circa 1920.

Hi In a post that I put up several days ago (now marked completed), I was trying to correct a spelling error that I had made in the post header where I had incorrectly spelt Gertrude and also inserted Smith as my g grandmother's name instead of Smart. Can anyone suggest how I could rectify this? Usually the word modify is next to quote but I couldn't see any option to make changes. Thanks!
