Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that. Wishful thinking I suppose. Here is the snip.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Old Parish Registers Marriages - Minnigaff
« on: Wednesday 03 November 21 03:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I found my ancestor listed on Scotlands People under Old Parish Registers Marriages 876/ 20 150 Minnigaff). I'm not sure if I understand the old process clearly and sorry if it is a silly question. This record talks about their proclamation of banns and that they were given a certificate of marriage.

Does this mean this was the sole record of their marriage or is their an additional parish record that might provide more detail such as father's name etc?

Thank you!

Hi All,

Would anyone know of a source for this record other than ProQuest?

Lancashire / Re: Locating Birth Record
« on: Wednesday 02 June 21 02:31 BST (UK)  »
Thanks All,

Yes, at least the family I'm looking for, were Denis & Bridget (nee law). Denis was the surveyor who ended up in Edinburgh in 1851.

Considering the fact that their next child was born in Scotland at the end of 1845, perhaps they did not have time/money to register James' birth because Denis was assigned to Scotland shortly after.

Such a shame as, if I had been able to confirm his parents were my Denis and Bridget, it would have shed some light on the family's path of travel during the period. As it stands now, they are in Ireland, with a gap, and then in Scotland. The survey were definitely in Lancashire in 1843, so very likely could have been my family.

Thanks again,
Brenda

Hi there!

I found a birth record on Lancashire OPC:

    Parents' Marital Status: con.

I looked to see if I could locate it on FreeBMD None came back from Oldham, would one of the following be the one?

Occupation Interests / Physicians - Ireland

On a marriage certificate, my potential ancestor James Sandford (b. around 1824) in Bristol, lists his father as "James Sandford, Doctor of Medicine". My ancestor would have been from Tyrone, Ireland. I believe much of their family came from Amagh originally.

Are there any resources that might help me locate a record of James Sr. the doctor? Directories etc for that period?

Great idea! I didn't know I could do that. Just completed. :)

That is so strange! Sorry I couldn't have saved you the money. I actually ordered a completely different name and the GRO sent me this one in error so I hoped someone could use it  :)
