South Africa / Ellison - Rhodesia>>>>SA
« on: Sunday 07 August 11 23:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi people,

Firstly i would just like to thank all the people that have gone before me - i have just spent the best part of an hour reading through previous posts and already feel I'm well on the way to working out alot of stuff with my family.

Secondly, this is just a punt to see if there is any one else who is researching or knows the above name ELLISON.

It's the surname I'm researching - my family emigrated out to Rhodesia to run a coffee plantation (thats the rumour) his name was William or Bill Ellison married to Florence.  Believed they left Altrincham in the 1920s for Rhodesia.

If it rings anybells let me know????

Cheshire / Mastor Tailor - Altrincham
« on: Saturday 06 August 11 10:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Just searching for general info on a family ancestor.

He is on the 1861 and 1871 census' as a master tailor.  it says he was an employer.  Would there have been a local industry he may have been connected to?  Is there a guild that he may have been a part of?

Rumours from my great aunt say that he was master tailor to the royal family?  I don't know how likely this is as he seems to have always been in Altrincham.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Hi,

I am researching some relatives the emigrated to Australia from Ireland leaving belfast.  However, i know they haad a daughter who was aged 5, that did not go with them.

All I know from the rumours in the family that she was not dead but just left behind - but she didnt stay with any relatives in Ireland.

This was approx 1925.   Just wondered if other people had this scenario where they might start to look????

Hi there,

I'm looking for help to find more info on a couple of men in my trees.

The first is William Henry 'Moss' Smith born approx. 1842 in Middlesex, in 1871 census he is living with his wife at the Infantry Barracks, Victoria Street, Windsor, Berkshire.

I have put 'Moss' like this because sometimes the family use the surname Moss-Smith but sometimes the moss is dropped.

By 1881, his wife Elizabeth is living wither her parents and she is called a soldier's widow.  I want to find out what i can about his service and if he died in a war?  Plus if his records tell us who his parents were?

The second male i am looking for is Joe or Joseph McMullan - Born in Co. Antrim or Co. Derry Ireland - and served in the armed forces, which branch i do not know.  I do know however he lost his leg and died in England but unsure of this was whilst in service.  I believe he was between the age of 26-36 whilst in the army but cant be sure?

Any help would be graterfully received.
