Family History Beginners Board / Scott - Hollows, Canonbie
« on: Thursday 18 August 11 15:18 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my family history for several years, with particular interest in my gt. gt. gt. grandfather, George Scott, who was a blacksmith in Hollows. He was born in 1797 and married Ann Hogg in 1828. They had 6 children, Mary, born 1829, Ann 1831, Jane, 1834, Margaret, 1837, Robert 1839, and Wilhelmina 1843. George had a son John, born in 1826 in Canonbie, with Ann Taylor. John was my gt. gt. grandfather and he married Mary Dalrymple and they lived in Newbie Barnes, near Annan for most of their married life. Of George's children, Mary, Ann, Margaret, and Wilhelmina all had illegitimate children, who were brought up by their grandparents. I have been unable to find out marriage or death details for Mary, Ann or Jane, so if anyone can help, I would be most appreciative.
Also, can anyone tell me anything about Hollows. Do any of the buildings date back to the late 1800's, and in particular, is the blacksmith's building, where George, and his son Robert carried o their trade, until Robert died in 1900.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards
G

I have only just registered on this site, and have been reading this most interesting thread. You may be interested to know that Rober Graham, a son of Alexander Graham and agnes Tidman, married Georgina Nichol on 25th February 1870  in Canonbie.
My interest is through Georgina Nichol, who was the illegitimate daughter of Ann Scott of Hollows, Canonbie, and William Nichol. Ann Scott's parents, George Scott (blacksmith of Hollows) and Ann Hogg were my gt. gt. gt. grandparents.
The 1871 census shows Robert and Georgina living at Rownaburn, Canonbie, with their daughter Ann aged 4 months. Robert was a coal miner. In 1881 they had 4 children, Ann, Agnes, Mary and Jane.
I hope this might be of interest to you.
Regards
G
