Glamorganshire / Gertrude Walter's singer sewing machine
« on: Wednesday 21 May 14 20:02 BST (UK)  »
wondering if anyone can help please,i am part of a small history research group and currently we are researching a singer sewing machine which was bought by a members father in the 70s in newport. there is a plaque attached with the name miss gertrude walters and it was presented to her by the community of heathfield house for her many years service at the school in 1924 with the latin numquam otio torpuit neque torpebat written at the bottom.
we know a bit about the school although not much we would be very interested in any information or tips as to where we go from here especially as to where we could find out more about Gertrude
thank you

as welsh born and bred I am almost certain monmouthshire district was indeed part of wales my family came from bedwelty and all their documentations and certificates state monmouthshire wales as far back as late 1800s as I have seen so far although transcriptions mainly by American transcribers that I have seen quite often put England at the end or my favourite wales England although maybe Monmouth as in the town changed from England to Wales. this is my belief anyway so sorry if I am wrong
