Northumberland / Scott- 1901 Census Issue
« on: Tuesday 28 August 12 02:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

I'm trying to find my Great-Grandfather Alexander Robert Scott in the 1901 census and having difficult. Here's some background info

Name: Alexander Robert Scott
D.O.B: 29th January 1889
P.O.B: Backworth, Northumberland, England
Father: William Scott
D.O.B: 13 September 1865
P.O.B: Bedlington, Northumberland, England
Mother: Sarah Scott (nee Ashburn)
D.O.B: 1868 D.O.D: 1892  [William remarries a Mary/Mercy Hollan]

They are quite visible (Alec and William) on the 1911 Census as living at 59 Ninth Row Ashington, with their other family living next door. On the 1891 census they're again visible living with Sarah Scott (Ashburn)'s parents Johnathan and Mary Ashburn. On the 1901 Census William Scott can be found living in Hirst with his new wife Mary and his two sons by her, Alan and James.

However, I can't find Alec on any 1901 on census. At that time at the age of 12 he must be living somewhere.. any help?

Side note: I have a ton of information on him and his parents etc. going back quite a few generations its on this link that's missing. Any information you may need in helping me track him down is readily available.

Cheers
Keiren Scott

This is my Great Great Grandfather William Scott. A traditional old miner from Bedlington Northumberland going back into Scotland through his parents. He's had better days I'm sure and needs a bit of a clean up, any takers?

Cheers.

PS A dating would be great. I know its in Postcard form.

Scotland / Scott and Scougall
« on: Sunday 20 May 12 05:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

I recently received the Birth Certificate of my Great Great Grandfather William Scott b. 1865 in Bedlington, Northumberland. His older Brother is a James Scott (from Scotland) and his Father is Alexander Scott (Also From Scotland) and his Mother is a Margaret  (Scotland) according to the 1871 census.

When looking through census records etc no Scott's corresponded with Alexander--Margaret and James in the correct time period, and those that did stayed in Scotland and didn't come to England. However my 2nd Cousin who conducts research with me, found a perfect match... but the surname was Scougall/Scougal/Scougale/Scowgal.

Could my family really have changed my name when coming to England? Why would they do so? Can anyone cross reference this information if possible and see if they find the same thing.

Cheers!

Northumberland / Aid in finding a true Line
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 20:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello there, my name is Keiren Scott. I have been doing a lot of research on my family recently and I have come to an issue which divides me and another member of my family over which relative's we have found are the true line. Here is the problem,

My Great Grandfather - Alexander Robert Scott, born in Northumberland on the 29th January 1889 and died in 1974 is the eldest true relative we know of.

I discovered via ancestry which I no longer have access to, that his Father was - Robert Edward Scott, and from this name I built a huge line behind it.

HOWEVER, a relative of mine did research in the 1990s and believes Alexander Robert Scott born in Northumberland 29Jan1889, is actually the son of William Scott. Can someone please use ancestry and find my true relative :( I've worked on this for ages and finding out I may be wrong was a huge huge blow to me, and truly demoralising, thank you so much.
