Lancashire / Catherine Fitzpatrick (nee Duggan) Court or Police Records?
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 14:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Catherine Fitzpatrick was born in Ireland but most of her adult life was spent in Prescot, Lancashire; a 'colourful' life I might add.  She was in and out of court, apparently, over 60 times and I was wondering where I could find records about this? (that is, if they are still in existence).  She was born in 1831 in Ireland and died at Whiston Union Workhouse in April of 1884 in Prescot.  Her husband was Thomas Fitzpatrick.  I believe most of the trouble she got into was from the late 1860s onwards but there could have been earlier incidences.

Thank you

Hello,

I want to obtain the death certificate of my grandfather who died at a young age in 1941 at Half Way Tree, St Andrew, Jamaica.  Can anyone tell me the best route to take to get this?

Thank you.

World War Two / Thomas Hornby WW2 Army Record
« on: Saturday 24 December 16 17:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I've just received this WWII document from the MOD and I was wondering if anyone could help decipher it for me.  It seems that Thomas Hornby was to move up from the rank of Corporal in the Army to Sergeant.  However, it seems that it was relinquished.  There seems to be a lot of abbreviations that I am not familiar with.  Could anyone decipher this for me please?  There was a story that Thomas Hornby had been to Dunkirk.  Does anything on this documentation suggest this or say where he was?

Thank you very much.

Staffordshire / Phoebe or Phebe Jones 1871 Census?
« on: Sunday 11 December 16 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am trying to find Phoebe Jones in the 1871 census without any luck.  She was in the 1881 census with her three daughters, Ann, Emma and Eliza Jones, at 82 High Street Bloxwich, Staffordshire.  Phoebe was born in Wolverhampton around 1839.  Her three daughters were born in Bloxwich.  The census returns I have seen list her as widowed but I'm not sure if she was ever married.  I also found her in the 1891 census living with her married daughter, Ann Goodwin and then in the 1901 with daughter Emma Thompson.  As you can imagine, there are different spellings of Phoebe which adds to the confusion.  Any help would be appreciated!

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Query
« on: Sunday 13 November 16 18:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am interested in having a DNA test done but I'm not sure what route is best to take.  Would anyone be happy to let me know about their experiences to help me with my decision?  I want to trace both my paternal and maternal lines but I don't know if my gender excludes me from any particular tests.

Thanks

Thank you Tommy, that was very kind of you.
Also, thank you medpad; I must admit that I didn't have an interest in military history/uniform before but you are peaking my interest!  I'm going to look into this further as I am in the UK.  I now have questions about my grandfather who served in WWII in the Navy and I will explore this further in the Armed Forces board as Treetotal mentioned.
Thank you everyone again for your input!   :D

Thanks medpat!  Would he need to achieve one stripe before moving onto the two?  If that is the case, would one stripe be for LAC?  The photo had 'taken aboard the Dorsetliner October 1931 Port Sudan Africa' written on the back.  I find it curious that he had a photo taken by a boat when he was in the RAF?  Any thoughts?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Gerty's Husband

I have another question.  I've attached another photo of the groom, the one from 1931 that I mentioned earlier http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=757628.0  As you can see, he is in uniform without the stripes.  Above, in the wedding photograph, he had two stripes on his RAF uniform.  As he did not have stripes in the 1931 photograph, does this suggest that he was a lower rank at that point?  If he had already had had two stripes, would the 1931 uniform have had them on it.
