Oxfordshire Completed Look Up Requests / Bampton marriages completed
« on: Saturday 21 November 15 07:55 GMT (UK)  »
Would any kind person have access to Bampton marriages?
I am looking for the marriage of John Collis to "Elizabeth"
Their children were baptised in Bampton from 1806 to 1822
So I am hoping this is where they may of married.
Cannot find anything on-line only lots of "trees" have John Collis marrying Elizabeth Wheeler on March 24th 1796 in St Giles Church Oxfordshire but this would only make them 15 and 16 years old. Does this seem feasible? Especially when children start to come along 10 years later ?

Also on the 1851 census Elizabeth's birth place is given as Tera Oxfordshire
John born 1781 Bampton
Elizabeth 1780 Tera
Any idea's where this is?
Many thanks in advance

Wiltshire / Alderbury marriages
« on: Monday 22 December 14 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
Is it possible that there could be an error on the IGI?
I am looking for a marriage between John England and Frances Bundy. Their first child was baptised in March 1826 in Downton.
The only marriage I can find for a John England [nothing at all with reference to Frances Bundy] is to a Elizabeth Masters but there is also a marriage for Elizabeth Masters to a William Fry 7 days apart.
William Fry Elizabeth Masters 01 Oct 1825 Alderbury, Wiltshire, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I04801-1 , System Origin: England-EASy , GS Film number: 1279262 , Reference ID: item 7-11

John England Elizabeth Masters 08 Oct 1825 Alderbury, Wiltshire, England
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: I04801-1 , System Origin: England-EASy , GS Film number: 1279262 , Reference ID: item 7-11

I can find William Fry and wife Elizabeth on census returns so I assume that their marriage is correct
John England died in 1829 and his wife Frances re-married in 1831.

Many thanks for any thoughts you may have.

Somerset / Bastardly order
« on: Sunday 13 July 14 17:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Would anyone know If it is possible to search on-line and if so where if a Bastardly order was taken out in Somerset.
My 3x grandmother  Fanny Woodbury had a son Alfred in 1843 in Taunton. On his birth certificate it names his father as William Miller labourer. In 1841 there are a couple of William Millers in the same area as Fanny who may the father but of course I have nothing to tie him to her. If she did take out an order would it give me anymore information on William?
Many Thanks

Dorset / Collins Family Beaminster
« on: Saturday 11 August 12 10:52 BST (UK)  »
I have a 4xgrandmother Sarah Collins .From census information ie 1861 and 1871 she was born 1794 Beaminster. She married Job Allen 10th July 1816 in Beaminster with consent of parents.
I took it for granted that she was the Sarah Collins baptised 7th November 1794 daughter of John Collins and Grace Mills.
I thought I was being clever and obtained the will of John Collins who died in 1848 thinking he was my 5xgrandfather however from the evidence in his will his daughter Sarah married Joseph Saunders 14th February 1817.
He also mentions daughters Elizabeth and Mary which tie up with baptisms for daughters of John and Grace.  No sons are mentioned in the will which would be correct. .John and Grace did have two sons both named John  but they died in childhood..No mention of a wife as Grace pre-deceased him .So I am confident I have the will of the right John Collins.
So my problem is who are the parents of my Sarah Collins?
There are two marriages for a Sarah Collins but I can only find one baptism .I have been looking in the surrounding parishes but no luck .Has anybody any ideas where I can go from here?
Thanks ???

First may I wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and Thank everyone who helps us amatures out! :)
Whilst searching the Dorset History Centre on-line catalogue I found an item relating to my 4xgrandfather Francis Shepherd. Does anyone know what the document would actually tell you ?
The Title is Licence to enclose heath.
  1. Thomas Bartlett of Wareham, esquire
 2. Francis Shepherd of Wareham, plumber and glazier
 2 to 1: £1 7s p.a. 1 to 2: 5 1/2a enclosure on Stoborough heath with mines and quarries
Date 21 Oct 1813

What would be the purpose of enclosing Heath? I believe stone and clay was mined on Stoborough Heath .Would it mean Francis was getting involved in this industry. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

Berkshire Lookup Requests / White's of Thatcham
« on: Saturday 17 September 11 17:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello ,
I am hoping that someone will be able to find the baptism of Harriet White born in Thatcham c.1837 .Her parents were Joseph White [c.1804]  and Lucy Ford .I can find her younger siblings on the IGI but Harriet and her brother Israel c.1835 are not there .
Also I know from Joseph White marriage certificate [he remarried  in 1839 after Lucy died] that his father was Richard White .If there is any information on Josephs parents or his birth I would be very grateful.
Many Thanks
