The Common Room / Re: Inherited Red Hair
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 08:04 BST (UK)  »
Interesting stories from you all. With my own family, although my Grandfather had red hair, none of his children did, hence the skipping generations. All first born grandchildren (My generation) with the exception of Dad's sister's family, were boys, and all had red hair. Most of the second siblings were dark and also boys, and most of the girls were blond except me. I had Auburn hair when young, but sadly that's gone now. My father's sisters family the red hair has skipped a second generation, then popped up again in the third.

Any Gill descendants out there? Love to hear about you.

My grandfather , Bennett Goodwin had red hair and it seems he inherited it from his mother's side of the family via his Grandmother Sarah Furness (Nee GILL) She was the Daughter of Paul Gill of Grindlow and was married to James Furness of Cartledge House in Great Hucklow.
The red hair seems to skip generations through our family, so I wonder if it still exists in Gill family descendants and does the same.

Thanks for your reply . Unlikely to  be Catholic connection, our family had it's own pew in the Tideswell cathedral, Although you never know. One family member ran away to get married at Peak Forest.

I'm trying to discover if there was a Middleton/Bennett marriage around 1732 in Wheston or Tideswell. These people would have been associated with Lowfields Farm in Wheston.
I have in my possession a silver spoon, thought to be a wedding spoon which is dated with the above year. (and engraved)

Sales transactions on the farm deeds have
1729 Robert Middleton Sen. and Robert Middleton Junior and Mary his wife to Ben Bennett
and
1736 Robert Brennan Esq. to Ben Bennett and William Bennett (deeds)

If anyone researching these families have come across anything of interest along these lines, I'd love to know.
