According to 1861 Census the family consisted of:
Matthew Delaney 40, Anne (Honora) 40, Nicholas 20, Thomas 18, Mary 13, Michael 7, all born Kilkenny and then Margaret aged 3 born in Northumberland.

This would mean that the family moved from Kilkenny between 1854 and 1858.

Thank you for the links - thats great addition to my tree.

Any idea where I can look to find the marriage of Matthew and Honora, which I think may have been around 1840 ish.

Ireland / New to Irish Ancestry - help finding a marriage Delaney
« on: Monday 07 October 19 17:28 BST (UK)  »
Forgive my ignorance but could anyone give me advice on how I would go about locating a marriage in about 1840-1850 for the names below, these are the catholic names from the christening record of one of their children.

Matthai Delaney and Honora Shasbury.

They could have been from Kilerry or Kulkenny,

The were both born circa 1820 in Ireland, I know this as the first entry I have for them on the 1851 census when they appeared in Willington Quy, Northumberland.  Honora is named as Anne on the following census, I am assuming Honora and Anne are interchangeable.
If anyone could give me advice on good websites for source this information, I am more than willing to do the work, I'm just new to searching records for Ireland.
Thank you in advance.

What was his wifes name please?
His wife was called Catherine Rafferty but he didn't marry her until 1913 in Northumberland. He was aged 44 when he got married and according to marriage certificate he was a bachelor.  His wife was much younger.

Yes thats the same as I got.
I have also ruled out the following:
Alexander McWilliam born 16/04/1868 Keith and Borham to Elspet's
Alexander McWilliam born 15/02/1869 Kieth to Helen
Alexander McWilliam born to Anne also ruled out - his twin James survived.

Hi Monica
Ive worked through the 68,69,71,72 and looked at the Alexanders born in June on family search- no luck and also those where I think are illegitimate.
Somehow I think my grf may have given a wrong dob on the 1939 census.... that wouldn't surprise me.
I think I will keep going and if need me I will check every Alexander born in Banff..... possible see yous in a few years time lol :)

Does anyone have any advice on how I proceed to find out whether he was born illegitimately or would this not be possible without knowing at least 1 of his parents names?
Is there anyway I could potentially using any other source find out what his mum's name was?
Just trying to think outside the box.
