Thanks Tom and all - its certainly possible.
His son James moved down to London and married there and its been comparitively easy
to get to grips with that branch of the tree.  Still with your help I've got something to go on.

Thanks Claire - I'd found Jean as well, but no other siblings.
Have really come to a dead end with him  :(

Is my GGG Grandfather.  I've found him marrying Isobel Cockburn in 1804  at St Cuthberts Edinburgh, and his son (another James) being born the same year in Haddington.
I'm stuck now as I dont know how to find any more info.
Any guidance would be great

Thanks

Yes Maria - that's him.  Couldn't get Google to give me the name of the book!

Yes Dazey - I'll check out that link - thanks

Strange how a family living in rural Somerset ends with one sister a kitchen maid in a aristocratic house in Eaton Square, the other marries a piano forte maker in the east end of London (my GG mother) who has a child every year for 10 years until she dies in childbirth, and Elijah in Australia who lived to a grand old age.  Still that's why finding out about family history is so fascinating

Hi

This gentleman was my great grand uncle.  I know he emigated to Australia in 1853, but I'm surprised to have found a portrait of him on line and I believe there is also a book?

I'm intrigued ....

Does anyone have any further information about his?

Hello

I'm trying to trace the marriage records of the above.  The marriage took place in St James Church Bath 11 June 1827.  I've found a record of the Banns at the brides parish (Lycombe and Widcome).
My question is - would there be a record at St James and if so how would I access it?  Are the records held electronically somewhere.

Also I'm informed she died in 1836 but I cant find a trace of any burial records.  The couple lived in West Cranmore I believe.  Any ideas?

TIA

Thank you so much for the info.  That ties up with census info where there is a elderly Mary living with the family.  The link is very useful too and has helped with other records.
Thanks again
