The Common Room / Re: medical explanation required please
« on: Wednesday 14 April 04 23:21 BST (UK)  »
Thks for that Chris
This is what we knew anyway - it is more a question of was this an illegal termination or was it terminated due to her age - I thought that a medic might give me a slant on this due to the order of causes of death.

The Common Room / medical explanation required please

Hi List
I have just rcvd a death cert for my grandmother which shows the causes of death as:
a)Septicenia
b)abortion
c)evacuation of uterus

This was in 1931 and abortions were not legal so is this a miscarriage by another name or was this something 'back street' that went wrong. The husband was the manager of a sugar mill so i must assume they were at least middle class, as opposed to poor. She was 41 at the time of death and her children thus far were 17, 15 & 11 yrs old.

Thks John

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / lost Aldens in Gloucs or Berks 1851,1861
« on: Wednesday 07 April 04 00:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi list
I am trying to track either by 1851 or 1861 census my ALDEN family
George ALDEN married Eleanor TOCOCK in Reading 1837
Children William b 1844 stroud, George b1845 stroud, James & Henry b1848 Bradfield, Stephen b1856 Westbury on Severn.
I know that they lived in the Forest of Dean area for quite some years so should be in the 1861 Census, but have not found them in the 1851 census so far. Has anybody got any further clues on this for me please.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re:Lost ALDENS in Middx

Hi Pauline
I am not sure about the Abingdon Aldens - and have no details to confirm or deny this. But today I have rcvd another cert and I now know that in 1844 they were in Stroud,Gloucs up till now I didnt really believe that this contact was going to be one of mine- wrong spelling etc in index, but it certainly was - another £7 well spent !!
So we now go 1837 Reading,1844/5 Stroud,1848 Bradfield,1856 Westbury om Severn. Quite a lot of moving for that period I feel.

Hi Pauline
Thks for that - I was very much aware of the fact most of my research has been in the Forest of Dean. The problem has been in the years before they arrived there. I have births for Chiuldren in Bradfield,Berks and Theale,Berks but in the case of the Theale births there does not seem to be any birth certificates in existence. all of the staff pension records have there bith dates being Notorised by a Notary Public,Solicitor. As they all ended up working for GWR it is possible they moved around quite a bit and the direction is unknown. the 1851 census for Berk,Som,Wilts & Gloucs has no record so I'm casting my net further up and down the rail track to try and locate - hence the Middx posting.
