Hi Dawn and Valda

I have contacted Hillingdon Local Studies and they can do a search for each name for £1.75 per name if I have the baptism date and if I send a cheque.  I presume this is a check on each Batch Number.

Should I wait until you can do a look up for me Dawn, or go ahead anyway?

Regards

Thanks for the information Valva and thank you too Dawn.  I certainly don't mind waiting until you have time to do the look-ups.  That's very generous of you.  I'll contact Uxbridge Local Studies as soon as I can and let you know how I got on.

Thanks Valda.

I am not sure who I should contact for the West Drayton Parish Records.  I have looked on line and am a bit bewildered.

I have a Thomas Aldwin, born about 1773, West Drayton, London, England.  On familysearch there are records of 2 different fathers.  Both give the christening as 6 Jun 1773, West Drayton, London, England

Batch Number 7033807 gives the parents as William and Elizabeth.
Batch Number 8114932 gives the parents as John and Elizabeth.

Is there any way I can check which is correct?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to have misled you, I was going to do my own sleuthing and didn't realise you would be kind enough to do so much for me.

I thought I had the correct family and wanted to ascertain that Hugh was alive in 1891 and 1901 to give me something to work on to find his death, but you beat me to it and proved it was the wrong family.

I know Hugh's brother William was born in Donegal about 1825 and died in 1863 in Edinburgh.  He was a shoemakier.

To continue my research in Ireland I need to narrow down the area in County Donegal he or Hugh were born a bit more if possible and finding out about Hugh seemed to be the only way forward.  I am hoping to go to Ireland next year so want to be armed with all the information I can gather.

The death you found in Glasgow in 1895 Kirsty seems a possibility which I could follow up and that may help confirming some of the other information you both found for me.

Once again, thanks for all your help.

Thanks for that Gadget and Yonderpeasant

Unfortunately (or fortunately) it confirms that this is not the Hugh Carlon I am looking for.  That is the surname he put on his brother's death certificate, but the family name has been Carolan.  He was living at 18 Steel Street, Glasgow then.

My Hugh Carolan/Carlon's parents were Charles Carolan and Susan Marley.  His brother Charles came over to Scotland and appeared in the 1851 and '61 census, but not the 1841, so presumably the parents were still in Ireland at that time.

Thanks anyway.

Midlothian / 1891 and 1901 census request - Carlon
« on: Saturday 08 August 09 16:36 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the family of Hugh Carlon born in Ireland about either 1821  (1881 census) or 1824 (1871 census) and his wife Catherine also born in Ireland either 1843 or 1836.  His occupation was furniture dealer.
Children:  Mary Ann, James, Sarah, Isabella, from 1871 census, plus Margaret and Hugh from the 1881 census.

I would like to try and find out when Hugh died and where he came from in Ireland.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Caribou and Past Master.  I got the 2 certificates.  Jeremiah Hurley died from a fracture of bones of the left leg caused by a fall of earth on him while he was at work.  Interesting!  He was aged about 50 and a labourer.

From Esther Hurley, nee Foster's marriage to Henry Pierce I got the name of her father, John Foster, labourer.

Thanks to both of you.
