Northumberland Completed Look up Requests / Re: Possible Whitley Bay wedding
« on: Monday 04 February 08 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Gobbo

I am certain this is NOT Whitley Bay on the photograph.  The only church I know in W/Bay with a roofed gate is St Paul's and the Church is straight behind it - there are not any buildings. Also the Old fountain/parish cross? to the right is not W.Bay.
Sorry but at least you can eliminate this place from your searches.

Hi Frek

That does sound possible but then Rosie sent me details from the VRI and Charles and Christianna had a daughter Margaret in 1825 which would tie up with this and a son Henderson in 1827 - but neither of them are to be found with my Charles & Catherine on the 1841 Census.
Will have to send away for a later child certificate - just thought it might be easier and time saving to ask rootschat.

Many thanks

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Siobhan

Ryles was THE department store in Whitley Bay.  I lived just around the corner and it was definately out of our price league.  We just adored looking at all the beautiful clothes and occasionally walked through just for the fun of it.  We came home with ideas for my mother to make our dresses, skirts and blouses.  The only time I bought anything was around 1960 - it was a ski jumper in the sales, cost the fantastic sum of £10 and I still have it.  I refuse to part with it as it is memento of my youth!!

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage Lookup -Ramsey

Hi Ricky

Ricky: I did notice that the 1891 census said she was single, but on the 1901 census (RG13/1470/127/10) she is down as Sarah Lenton married with her 4 children, William, Mabel, Olive and Irene and as the first 2 tie up with the 1891 census it could just have been the enumerator getting her married status wrong while living with her parents.

Have heard from David thatRuth has not looked at the board for awhile so I will wait for a while then I may have to order the certificate.

Thanks

Hi Ricky

Sarah Roberts was born in Ramsey, Hunts about 1864 (7 years old on 1871 census).  HEr parents were John Roberts and Lydia Cumbledge.

William is completely illusive apart from being detailed on FreeBMD with Sarah giving the marriage details - I thought if someone could look up the church records it would help.  He never seems to appear with her on any census after their marriage although she keeps having children.

Thanks Marion

Hi Ruth

Could you please look up in your resources for the marriage of William Lenton and Sarah Roberts.  They married Jan/March 1885.  Her father was John Roberts.

I cannot find any trace of William Lenton with her on any subsequent census - is he a sailor?  All details would be most welcome.
Thanks
Marion
