Northamptonshire / BAINS Family - Glinton- Baptisms/Marriage
« on: Tuesday 10 April 07 20:59 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the BAINS family in Glinton.

George Bains born c1794 married Elizabeth?? (born c1799) - can someone look up this marriage with witnesses.

Then they have a family but I do not know any names.
They have grandsons George (born c1835); William (born 1838) and Charles born 1840. (I have found these children living with their grandparents on the 1851 census - on the 1841 they are listed as is a Mary aged 20 who could possibly be the daughter of George & Elizabeth or their daughter in law.)

I would be pleased to know who their parents were.

William BAins marries Mary (I think it's Howard) July-Sept 1858 would like a lookup of this marriage with father's details and also the witnesses.

Any help with this would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Chasbaz

Have tried these other versions, but there are very few in the south of England.  the other version in Straughan  which is prevalent in Northumberland and Durham.
These Hampshire STrawns are very elusive, and Joseph Strawn the elder is not on the census, or the IGI so it's another question sometime.

Thanks

Thanks Newfy

This certainly seems like him, as he he is down on his marriage certificate as Coach Guard.  The misspelling of the name has given me another version to look for with regard to his mother and father - Mary and Joseph.
Thanks Marion

Looking for any Joseph Strawn somewhere in Hampshire/IOW on this census.  Joseph the younger is born around 1828 and I think his mother is Mary (from 1841 census).  His father also Joseph (from Marriage cert) but can't find any of this family from online sources.

Thanks Nell

Seems unusual to have both father's missing in different churches at different times.  I will check now on the census and see if I can find a George or Edward.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Strawn marriages puzzle

I am researching the Strawn family on the Isle of Wight and the marriage certificates of both William Henry Strawn (wife Harriet Richardson) and his father Joseph Strawn (wife Jane Simmonds) omit the name of the wife's father.

William Henry married at St Mary's, West Cowes - 2 June 1878
Joseph married at Parish Church Carsibroke - 2 Sept 1855.

Would appreciate any help in checking these names - think I know from Census returns but would like definite information, also why would they omit their father's names?

Hi Chrissy

Have you had any success in tracing Nat Langham.  His mother's name is Mary born around 1787 in Hinckley.   She is there on the 1851 census HO107/2082/255/25 with son Samuel and married daughter - Looms.

Let me know if you have already found this as it is some time since you posted the question.

Northumberland / Re: Homes for Unmarried Mothers - Whitley Bay

Hi Sharon

There was a large Northumberland Village Homes site in Whitley Bay between Percy Avenue and Souter Park.

I lived in Percy Avenue from 1948-50 and we were not allowed to speak to the girls who lived in the various houses.  It was known as a place where the 'bad girls' went.  I presume they meant unmarried mothers, but at that time being a child I had no idea about such things.  The site was there for many years, though it is now down and I think new housing has been built.
