Northumberland / Re: Gofton of Monkseaton Tynemouth, anywhere in Northumberland

Paul

The Gofton Family were builders in Whitley Bay during the 1950-60's and maybe beyond.  They also had a fancy goods shop on Park View (opposite Ryles Fashion House - now long gone).

During the late 50's I went to school (Whitley Bay Grammar) with a girl called Gofton (can't give name here- she may still be living).  They lived in Monkseaton, but can't remember where.

Why not try trawling through the Bishop Transcripts on the familysearch pilot site.

Bywell St Peter's start around page 170 - I've checked around 1777-80 - working out a rough age of Ann from her marriage but no luck, but it might be worth starting at the beginning of the transcript and working through looking for John and Ann and a possible Whitfield marriage - Robson's might be more of them!

Hope this might help

Northumberland / Re: Hildreth Marriage
« on: Monday 23 February 09 17:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Heather

I have the Hildreth's in my tree - Isabella Russell was the sister of my 3 x gt grandmother Sarah Russell.  I could not find a marriage for Isabella and Philip either.

I did however find a record in Tweedmouth Marriages at the Berwick Archives for Philip's father William to Elizabeth Ramsay 5 Jan 1812.

Northumberland / Marriage for Thomas Russell around 1820
« on: Saturday 02 August 08 06:08 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for the marriage of Thomas Russell to an Eleanor?? around about 1818/1820 in the Berwick/Tweedmouth/NOrham area.
On the census returns their first child Isabella is born around 1820.  Have looked at Norham and Tweedmouth Bishop Transcripts with no luck - that I can see.   Eleanor says she is born at Horncliff, and they are both buried at Norham in family plot.
Possibly Presbyterian and maybe cross-border?  Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Ashley

The only suggestion I can make is maybe Thomas and Ann had a cross-border marriage/irregular border marriage.  Although they are quite a distance from the border there was a lot of Presbyterians around that area.  My 3x gt grandad was baptised at Lowick Presbyterian Chapel in 1824 - and I have yet to find a marriage for his parents anywhere.

Have you seen this site - you will find the entry on page 21 and you can then print it off - bit small - I have not yet found out how you print on the zoom but this site is fabulous for old records for Northumberland.
