I just wondered if anyone has access to the booklet of MI's for St Wilfred's, Grappenhall. I've found burials for Thomas Leigh (buried 21 July 1874) and Jane Leigh (buried 10 Jan 1869) in the Parish registers. I'm hoping there may be further information about their family group, children etc, on the headstone.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look out for 'Mersey Flat and Flatmen' by Michael Stammers, it's usually available on Amazon or Abebooks. It's a great book for details on the life of Flatmen etc.

My problem is that I live in Norfolk - makes travelling up to Crewe a tad inconvenient  ;D I've sent for a handful of packs relating to the villages where most of my ancestors lived, can't wait for them to arrive.

Thanks Jo, the township packs do sound great, time to dust off the credit card I think! I'll keep an eye out for the books too.  :)

Has anyone ordered a Township pack from Cheshire Record Office?

I'm thinking of ordering some but I'm not sure what's actually in them, the blurb on the website says they contain 'material from standard printed sources' and the link to the sample pack is currently broken so I can't see what's included.

Any experiences anyone can share would be very useful  :)

Occupation Interests / Mersey Flatmen - How do I find out the names of their boats?
« on: Friday 17 February 12 18:37 GMT (UK)  »
I've discovered that I have a dynasty of Mersey Flatmen in my family, is there an easy way to find out the names of the boats they sailed in? And once I have the boat names is there other information they can lead me to?

I've read the Michael Stammers book know that the Flatmen rarely owned the boats they sailed, is it still possible to find out the boat names if they didn't actually own the boat?
