London and Middlesex / Residents of 22 Tregunter Rd Sth Kensignton circa 1919.
« on: Tuesday 30 June 20 21:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Im hoping that someone can possibly help me find out what happened to Catherine Delaney whose last known address in 1919 was at 22 Tregunter rd South Kensington.

What I know of Catherine was that she was born in the Curragh military camp Ireland 30th May 1894, her father was Jeremiah Delaney who was a labourer/army reservist, her mother was Mary Clancy nee Mullaly.

On the 1901 census she aged 6 yrs is living with Parents and brother Thomas aged 5, at James St, Newbridge, Co Kildare

In 1911 she is 16 has moved to 13 Mount Tallant ave Dublin employed as a servant by James Sheils and his wife.

Her father dies in 1913 in Kildare and the next contact I have is in 1919 giving 22 Tregunter Rd Sth Kensington London as her address, by now she is 19 yrs old.

Another address that she sends dated August 20th (no year) gives Upper Brook St,Park Lane, London as an address.

From here the trail goes cold, the family know nothing of what happened to her.
By all accounts the address given would have been in affluent area, Id be grateful for any help in tracing Catherine history, Im aware that it is possible that she may have returned to Kildare/Ireland, but there is also a likelihood that she may have stayed in England and possibly married.
Thanking you.

« on: Monday 01 June 20 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Im looking for a Photo of the women's alm's house which was located on Cork St, it was supported by the local Presbyterian community in the 19th century and may not have been a large building as there were 12 women catered for, in 1884 it was at number 13 Cork St, next door at number 12 was a shop owned by the Tyrell family.
Any help appreciated thank you.

Dublin / Lorcan Sherlock Mayor of Dublin 1912-15
« on: Saturday 14 December 19 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for family background information on Lorcan Sherlock who was Mayor of Dublin 1912-15.

I have been researching a Sherlock family with roots to the Rathmines/Rathgar area circa 1870s-80s where on the 2nd Sept 1877 a John Sherlock married Alice Connor in Lady of Refuge church.

The marriage record shows his father was Patrick Sherlock from Dunville Tce, the fathers occupation given as 'Herd's' (im presuming cattleman/herdsman are one and same ?) Patrick was a Blacksmith.

Im hoping that with the relative rarity of the Sherlock surname 'my' Sherlock's may be related.

Cork / Clancy's of Mitchelstown.
« on: Tuesday 26 November 19 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
Interested in any info on the Clancy Family who were living at number 12 Upper Cork St Mitchelstown on 1901 census, in 1911 they were next door at no 11 Upper Cork St, with James as head of household stating he was a carpenter and Publican.

My interest stems from Hanorah who was aged 12 on 1901 census with her parents James and Kate and siblings, sometime between 1901 and  1905, Hanorah would move to Dublin marry John Sherlock in 1905 in Finglas Dublin, she gave her occupation as Housemaid and address shown as 50 Drumcondra Rd Dublin.

The marriage cert states her father as James Clancy and his occupation as 'Carpenter'.

Hanorah was also known as 'Hannah' died in Dublin aged 47 in 1935.

Id be interested in any further info on the Clancy family from Upper Cork St Mitchelstown who would have been related to Hannah, I did see a photo of an old headstone in a local graveyard with the Casey name engraved, one of those names was Julia Clancy who I believe 'may' have been Hannah's sister mentioned on 1911 census, she died in 1983..the earliest date on the headstone dates to 1835, taking this into consideration I think the Hannah's family may have dated back to the 18th century in the area.

Any further info  would be appreciated.

World War One / Military Record for Patrick McCormack Dublin ?
« on: Monday 02 September 19 11:34 BST (UK)  »
I have a Patrick McCormack born Dublin circa 1881, he married Elizabeth Anderson in Dublin 1908.
On the 1911 Census he is living at 30.1 Portland row Dublin which at the time also showed up on several childrens birth certs as Empress Terrace.

The family believe he served during WW1 but I have no confirmation for this.

The last birth of a child to the couple was in August 1915 and this showed Patricks occupation as 'Telephone cleaner' ( possibly in the General post office) where his brother was a 'Postman' in 1911.

If this was the case then it's possible he lost his job due to the destruction of the Post office in the rebellion of 1916 and 'may have enlisted around this time?

As a footnote to this link his father Christopher on 1911 census gives his occupation as a 'labourer Telephone eng'

Elizabeth Anderson's father Patrick Anderson born in Athy Co Kildare circa 1837 gives his states he is 'Army Pensioner'  on 1901 census for 102 Lwr Gardiner St Dublin.
