Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Missing from 1911 Census?
« on: Monday 18 April 11 18:35 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

Is it possible that 1911 Irish censuses are missing people?

The reason I am asking this is that I could not find my granny and her family in 1911 Irish Census despite the fact that her youngest sibling was born in Ireland and was only one year old at the time of the census.

I assumed that they may had returned to Scotland again as they were in 1901 Scottish censuses. To my surprise, they were not in 1911 Scottish censuses.

I am wondering how likely was it to miss my granny and her family in 1911?

Looking forward to hear from your replies with much interest.

Kind regards,

Tees

Lanarkshire / Missing from 1911 Census??
« on: Monday 18 April 11 18:14 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

I was very surprised to discover that my granny's family was not in 1911 Scottish Censuses.

I was waiting patiently for Scottish censuses to come out this year after searching for my granny's family in 1911 Irish Censuses to no avail.

I was confident that I would find them in 1911 Scottish censuses. For past few days, I was unable to locate them.

I was very puzzled by this as I know my granny's family had always been in the UK, they did not left the UK for anywhere to the best of my knowledge.

They were in 1901 Scottish census in Glasgow area.

I know the last sibling was born in Ireland. But it is a possibility that the family moved back to Scotland for the employment reason.

If anyone would like to take up a challenge, I welcome your assistance.

The family were:

John Jordan
Isabella (known as Bella) Jordan
Alice Jordan
Hugh Jordan
Margaret (known as Maggie) Jordan
Isabella (known as Bella) Jordan
Frances (known as Fanny) Jordan
Rosena/Rosina (known as Ena) Jordan
John Jordan

Isabella, Fanny, and Rosena were born in Scotland (Glasgow) and the rest of the family were born in Ireland.

At the time of 1911 census, Rosena was about 4 years old and her wee brother John was only 1 year or so.

In 1901, father John was a railway labourer.

I have searched 1911 Irish censuses but I could not find them at all. I think it is odd because I was able to find my granny's aunts and uncles and her cousins there along with her grandparents.

That leads me to believe that they must have returned to Scotland.

I sincerely hope with a fresh pair of eyes could spot this family in the censuses somewhere in Scotland.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Kind regards,

Tees

Technical Help / Windows 7 and Video Card?
« on: Tuesday 28 December 10 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

Hope you can resuce me from this daft business of upgrading the Dell Dimension 2400 to Windows 7.

I was able to install it without a "problem."

It seems that Media Centre will not work well with the current video card.

I am wondering if I could swap my video card from Dell Dimension 4550 to be put in Dad's Dimension 2400?

Or would it be better if I just take his hard drive out of his PC case and put it into Dimension 4550 case? Won't it be a problem because of a slight different cable jumpers (on Dimension 2400)?

Hopefully, my Dimension 4550's video card is of a better quality?

It seems this is the only issue we have with Windows 7 because the display is a bit off--perhaps it is because of the video card?

Looking forward to hear from you real soon. I know you will save me and put a smile on my Dad's face. :)

Christmas Cheers,

Tees

PS I just checked the information and it seems that my 4550 has a better video card. So, how do I swap it? Which is better: just swap the video card or take Dad's hard drive and drives out and put it in my 4550?

Technical Help / How to reset the password?? SOLVED & Thanks to all who replied.
« on: Sunday 05 December 10 02:52 GMT (UK)  »
I am quite embarrassed as I had set a new password without jotting it down first. This PC is Windows 7.

I was fairly confident that I would remember it.

Alas, it was not to be the case today.

I am not sure how to reset password so I can access to my PC.

It says I need a USB stick to do it?? It seems I am unable to do anything because one needs to create a password reset stick or disk. I did not.

Would appreciate it very much if anyone could help me out here.

Kind regards,

Tees

Dear Rootschatters,

This is my personal question which I always wanted to know the answer to but every time I ask this question. I got more confused!

Please, in layman's terms, what is the difference between AMD and Intel (Pentinum)??

Googling it up really blew my mind as I cannot grasp the technical side to both processors.

Some people said Intel is a lot better than AMD, others said no, etc...back and forth on this subject.

I am not interested in that but what is the difference between them--that is what I want to know.

Thanks again,

Tees

Technical Help / cutting/pasting/copying not working? Solved!
« on: Saturday 04 December 10 22:37 GMT (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

This is unusual problem I have with my Dad's mouse. It cannot do any cutting/pasting/copying.

It's a wireless mouse made by Microsoft.

I would appreciate an advice on how to fix this "minor" issue so Dad will be happy with his PC again.

Kind regards,

Technical Help / Primary drive 0 not found??
« on: Saturday 04 December 10 01:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I am helping my Dad out with his PC with some drives.

When I put everything back in his PC, the PC says, "Primary drive 0 not found."

How do I correct this problem?

My Dad is very anxious to have his PC back so he can "play" around on it. :)

I would appreciate any advice or help with this.

For your information, it is Dell Dimension 2440 PC.

Awaiting your helpful replies.

Kind regards,

Tees

Technical Help / Problems with IE 8 and shutting down for no reason
« on: Monday 06 September 10 08:07 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

Why am I having so much trouble staying on Internet? It keeps hanging and getting a message saying that it has to shut down every half an hour or hour.

All of this starts yesterday.

Even my PC shuts down without my prompting. Then get a message saying that it is serious and I have a trouble with one of my device drivers?? Dell has a tool that checks my PC out and it says there is no error at all.

I even tried System Restore---I could not get back to earlier point as it kept telling me it cannot be done.

I even tried to do a clean installation—I could not boot the CD.

So messy right now…I am wondering if it has to do something with my installing new memory sticks?

This PC is my favourite and I do not want to go back to PC with Windows 7 because I like Outlook Express & Windows XP.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely yours,

Tees

Technical Help / How to get two Hard Drives recognized?
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 02:59 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

How to get my PC to recognize my two Hard Drives?

What must I do when I do the set up (after one keying in F2 key)?

I tried to switch two hard drives and check cables. It looks fine to me. But I could not get my PC to recognize the drives.

This PC was unplugged overnight (on Monday night) as I was setting my new PC up.

Now I would like to get my old files and old e-mails and its settings over to my new PC. But I am not able to "get on" my old PC.

Oh, this PC is running on Windows XP.

And should I go to BIOS (if so, how to get to it?)?

I would be most grateful to any help or advice given here.

I will get myself an external Hard Drive as I think it will help the situation.

Kind regards,

Tees
