Staffordshire / Samuel Medley born c 1770 Dudley living at Tipton.
« on: Thursday 27 July 17 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello all
Can anyone help with Samuel Medley?
He says on the 1851 census he is 81 and born Dudley.
He married 1793 at Kingswinford Mary Saunders and he had a daughter Hannah 1795 at Dudley and possible sons Samuel 1798 and Edward 1800 at Bilston.
He fails to appear after 1851 and I assumed he died in 1857 but that appears to be his grandson .I can find no death and no birth that fits.

There are 2 Samuel Medleys joining the army -one born 1769-76 Old Swinford from 1795-1817 and the other born 1776 in West Bromwich from 1808-1817.
Presumably they are the Samuel Medleys bapt O/S 1776 s of John and Mary and Wednesbury 1773 s of Richard and Susannah Medley .
I don't fancy the Wednesbury one as there is a Samuel and Elizabeth coach smith having children there in the 1800s and I know wife Mary died 1845 at Great Bridge but if he's the one from O/S how can he be in the army from 1795-1817 and still at Bilston 1798-1800?

Any one have any ideas?

Warwickshire / John Barfoot born 1824 Coventry land agent Tipton
« on: Saturday 22 July 17 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi
A couple of weeks ago a lady came to my family history group looking for the gentleman mentioned and we failed to find his baptism. We could have been more helpful but it was a busy week and wouldn't you know I found it after she had gone.I can't remember your name or any way to contact you but if you are out there looking for John Barfoot born 1824 Coventry here's the answer.

John Barfoot age 47 agent Horsely Heath baptised Tipton St Martin 7.5.1871 s of John and Jane watchmaker. It's on Freereg.
His son Thomas Hassle Barfoot is also on there baptised at the Horsley Heath Centenary Chapel 21.5.1871.

Parents marriage Coventry St John 9.7.1820 John Barfoot and Jane Hassle wit John and Ann Hassle and Ebenezer Barfoot.

The family seem to have no child baptisms.
Jane dies at Coventry Sep 1846 age 52 and John remarries Sophia Ruddle 1847 at Bethnal Green. Here he is a widowed book seller with a father Thomas Barfoot grocer.

The 1861 census gives him a full name of John Parr Barfoot born c 1799 Husbands Bosworth Leicestershire.
No baptism but there is a marriage there 5.11.1797 Thomas Barfoot and Ann Parr and they appear on the 1841 census as a grocer.

Other possible siblings for John Parr Barfoot-Ebenezer 1803,Mary 1806,Anne 1810 and Thomas 1811.

If you're out there, sorry we didn't crack it on the day.

Huntingdonshire / James smith and Elizabeth Richardson from St Ives
« on: Friday 16 June 17 11:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm doing a family tree for a friend and have got as far as the 1841 census in St Ives William Smith born 1806 and Elizabeth his wife born 1811 labourer.
Pallots marriage index gives a marriage 1829 at St Ives and her maiden name as Richardson which fits with the children's birth certificates.
She is born at St Ives according to latter censuses but he is dead by 1851.
Anyone up for the challenge of finding their parents?
There don't seem to be anything for St Ives online.

Thank you

Staffordshire / David Bayley Wednesbury Coroner's court January 1891
« on: Saturday 06 May 17 12:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Has anyone got any ideas about finding more details about David Bayley's death at Wednesbury Jan 1891.
His burial at Wood Green cemetery mentions a coroner's inquest but it doesn't seem that records are available at Smethwick archives before 1897.
FindMyPast newspaper archive has nothing.
The lady I'm trying to help isn't keen to buy the death certificate and I've no other ideas.
Suggestions welcome.

Staffordshire / Come in Johnathon Bayley
« on: Monday 10 April 17 11:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Anyone up for a challenge?
Can anyone find Johnathon Bayley born 1884 Wednesbury/Darlaston after the 1901 census in West Bromwich?
His parents are both dead, his sister Martha is dead and his sister Lizzie is working as a servant in the area but no sign of Johnathon after 1901.

Any ideas appreciated.
ps the family are indexed as Vaughan on the 1891 census on A* because two households are run together.

Hello
I hope you don't mind me bothering you but did anybody see a small article asking about setting up a one name family study in recent magazines.
I saw something either in WDYTYA or FT magazine  but now can not find my copy .
I have December and February and have searched both for both magazines and nothing.
I just want a contact  and I can't believe I've lost the magazine.
Can anyone help?

Staffordshire / Mary kinsella born 8.1.1912
« on: Monday 28 November 16 12:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I'm part of a Family history group and last week we had someone drop in to do their family history. We found a Mary A V Kinsella who married Joseph Davies ?Davis in Walsall in 1930 and died 1964.
I got as far as her birth date 8.1.1912 but that's when the problems start.
I can see a registration for Mar qtr 1912 in West Bromwich mother Thompson.(James Bernard and Charlotte Ada as it turns out).
The problem is that the lady believes the Kinsellas were Romany gypsies who cam from Ireland on a horse and cart.
I've checked the new civil indexes for Ireland but no one matches.

Any ideas?
I'm not sure how Northern Ireland works and that's the only thing I can think of if that birth in West Bromwich isn't right.
She's coming back Friday and there's not a lot to say without that 1930 marriage certificate.
Any help appreciated.
