Cheshire Lookup Requests / Look up request Chester Archives
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 10:40 BST (UK)  »
Good Morning
I hope I'm not being too cheeky but is any one going to Chester archives?
I'm looking for a child of David and Jane Elizabeth Goodwin who was probably baptised at St Thomas High Lane.
The 1911 census says there were 4 children and I can only find three. The two youngest daughters Nora and Grace were baptised at Disley but the eldest Norman Coats Goodwin born July 1879 doesn't seem to be there and then there is a gap before Grace born Nov 1884.

Could any one take a quick look?

Cheshire / One of our Goodwins is missing
« on: Friday 07 October 16 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I had a bit of surprise looking at the 1911 census for David Goodwin born 1855 and  his wife Jane Elizabeth nee Coates born 1856 .All the family were there but you guessed it the fertility bit there is a fourth child still alive.
Now there's been no mention of a fourth child and as the other children are in their 20's it seems a bit odd no one mentioned him or her.
Looking at the other children's births it looks like the missing child was born  between July 1879-Nov 1884.
I've whittled it down to 5 in Macclesfield.
Can any one else do better before I start sending for certificates

Isaac Sep 1880
Harold Sep 1882
Harry Warren Sep 1882
Edwin Sep 1883
Charles Mar 1884.

The younger daughters (Ethel Grace and Nora Maud),are baptised at Disley but no sign of elder brother Norman so I'm assuming he was christened at St Thomas High Lane which isn't on line.

Any help appreciated

London and Middlesex / George Douthwaite St Saviour Southwark
« on: Friday 15 July 16 13:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Had a bit of a surprise this morning ,my Richard Douthwaite currier Southwark who I had a christening for in Holborn Lying in Hospital in 1756 turns out to be apprenticed as a currier 1768 age 14 in Southwark.
Great all fits except his father is a George Douthwaite labourer, not John a whipmaker.
Can anyone spot any signs of George and his wife, whoever she may be?
There's a George Douthwaite feltmaker buried in the parish 30.8.1780 ,fingers crossed it's him and a son James buried 8.11.1751 infant son of George carman.

Baptisms,marriage,burial would be terrific.
Any thong really would be great

Denbighshire / Fancy a Challenge?-John Williams tanner Henllan
« on: Friday 04 March 16 12:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm looking for any help on a John Williams tanner from Henllan running a business in Denbigh.born c 1770s
His Will Feb 1839 is great but I can't find a burial which would give his age and narrow things down a bit.
First children baptised at Henllan 1798 but from 1802 he and his wife Dorothy Owen(s) are in Denbigh.
There's a son John 1799-1841 also a tanner who provides some confusion.
Any ideas how to find his age?
There's two possible death entries in St Asaph 1838/1839 and so it's going to cost £18.50 if I buy them and there's no guarantee it's him.
Any help welcome for finding his parents or a marriage saying which parish he came from.
Dorothy came from Fintshire baptised 1775 Bodfari daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Owens but no sign of a marriage.
Help please!

Surrey / Dairy Cottage and The Dairy Witley
« on: Thursday 11 February 16 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning
Has anyone any idea where to find any information on the Dairy/Dairy Cottage in Witley during the 30's.
Ideally would love a photo but it would be nice to know if it was still a Dairy or had been turned into a private house.
Was Witley really rural back then?
I'm not from the area and just wondered what the village was like.

Thank you for your time

Staffordshire / Missing little Smiths
« on: Saturday 23 January 16 12:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Anyone fancy a challenge?
I'm looking for the whereabouts of the following three children of James Smith and Elizabeth Davis/Davies born in Burntwood .

Charles Richard Smith 1871 married Mar 1894 a widow Elizabeth Kate Wassall and had a son Cuthbert Charles Louis Smith  1897 and the family are at the Summer House  Chorley staffs 1901.She and Cuthbert are running a newsagents in the Peak district in 1911 but no sign of Charles.

Mary Ann Smith  born 1875 last seen 1891 census in Burntwood with father and brothers James and Thomas.

James born 1880
last seen 1901 Croxton as a butcher's apprentice age 20 born Ogley Hay

They are all supposed to have died before their father's death in 1918 according to Henry my great grandfather and their older brother but I wouldn't believe that because he was also sure all his brothers died in the same mining accident.(the eldest dies in the local Asylum in 1914).

Any sightings appreciated
Sorry I can't get rid of the bold.

Dublin / Baccy pipe maker
« on: Saturday 31 October 15 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I'm new to Irish genealogy ,has anybody got any pointers for finding
John Toole or maybe O'Toole as he signed on his marriage pipe maker born 1798 Dublin city.

He can write on his marriage of 1821 to Jane Carter in Wolverhampton,Staffordshire and gives his birth on the censuses as Dublin city.
Where do I go from here?
