I'm really puzzled now!  Too late to work on tonight. Will have to ponder it when I'm fresher.
It seems to be getting more complicated.  Thanks everyone for looking.
Not too sure who "Ivy Myrtle" is - maybe just another name she choose for another area of her life - maybe someone altogether different.     How did you find that her maiden name was "Butcher"?
The family always say that she was Irene Ivy Hewett who married Roy Baldwin.

Lucy2,  The idea of a marriage of Roy to Ivy (or Irene Ivy) comes from the grandchildren.  They have always been told that Roy married Ivy in Napier, New Zealand.
I can't find any divorce to date.
The family says that Roy left Ivy when there son Neville was around 2 years of age (in Australia) Some say Roy was born in New Zealand and others say no...he was born in Australia!!??! In the family he was only known as 'Roy' (but of course he could have had another name that they didn't know about)  Can't seem to find him anywhere.  The family know that Ivy (Irene ) went on to re-marry and have further children.
I wonder where the Ivy 'Myrtle' comes from?  It is still to be verified that Roy married Elizabeth Colquhoun.  Much work and pondering still to do.  Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks Lucy2 and Whiteout7,  I appreciate your contribution.  At this stage I don't have the sons birth certificate - but I am told by another family member that the certificate only has 'Roy' on it.
I also don't have his occupation - except that at one time he worked in a factory.(Cement I think)
We do know that Roy left Ivy (Irene) when their son  Neville was around 2 years.  Ivy (Irene) remarried an Ernest William Fishlock and they went on to have several other children in Australia.
I have found no conclusive evidence of Roy remarrying as yet.  Still a big mystery.  Thanks again

Well, you have put another lot of names before me.  Much to check out.  Thank you for your information.  As soon as I can I will try and check each suggestion out.  Thanks again  Do you know in what area of N.Z. that the 1919, 1923 and 1925 marriages took place?

Looked at Ewart - Not my family.
Beginning to think he wasn't married in N.Z.

Thanks Tiki1962.  I will try and look at the Ewart one when I get a chance.  Don't think the Ivy Myrtle one is our one - not at this stage anyway?!?  Thanks again

Hi Whiteout7,  Thanks for looking.  I only know that he was called 'Roy' - that's not to say he didn't have another name - I just don't know it.  I have recently found out that Ivy may have been Irene Ivy Hewitt. She seems to use the name "Ivy".  This is still a work in progress.

Some other 'post - er' may have Neville's birth certificate and can contribute to this discussion. I don't at this stage have a copy.
Minniehaha's comment about an Ivy Hewitt marring a Roy Clark Ewart may need some further investigation. I wonder if Roy used another name???  Hewitt and Ewart sound the same.
Much to ponder and work through.  Thanks again    P.S. Do you know the names of the two Ivy's marrying Baldwins on the NZbdm?

Occupation Interests / Re: What is a Cordwainer

Thanks Berlin Bog and Kay99,  I now know.

I guess the next question is: would it normally be an occupation for a woman?  My distant relative was a woman cordwainer.

Thanks again

Occupation Interests / What is a Cordwainer

Hi, Can anyone advise me on what is a 'Cordwainer' - Is it something to do with mining?  It is shown on an 1861 census. A woman's occupation.  Thank you
