Tipperary / Michael Stapleton of Sedgemoor (Knigh) and Ms. Hogan
« on: Thursday 24 September 15 12:28 BST (UK)  »
A google search turned up this. Michael Stapleton was my Great, Great Grandfather and supposedly a "very kindly man". Obviously this is now open to question so I was wondering if anyone can give any advice on how to research this further!

Huge thanks in advance:

The people of Ardcroney are about building a house for the poor imbecile woman named Hogan, against whom an ejectment decree was obtained at the lJst Quarter Sessions by Michael Stapleton , of Sedgemoor

Well, the date and the father's name match, at least! I suppose the birthplace could jump from one census to the next - I've seen many do that before!

That's right, Heywood. Husband was James. In the 1871 they should have a five year old son called Joseph if that helps?

Hi,

It's noted in the 1881 census.

Thank you. What about earlier censuses?
:-\ I can't see an Elizabeth Williams in 1881 unfortunately.

She's Elizabeth McCartney by then, having married in 1864 at Liverpool. Her father's name and occupation was on the certificate.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone had details for Elizabeth's baptism? I believe she was born in Birkenhead 1845/6 and that her father was George Williams, a boilermaker. Trying to track down details of him, so I suppose he'd be in the 1841 (and 1851?) census, but haven't found him yet...

Maybe I should work out whether I'm connected to the Brays who own the photographers? There are differing lines of Holmfirth Brays who predate the parish registers, though.

Holmfirth was an early photographic stronghold so I'm always hopeful of turning early family photos up. Sadly never managed though. The earliest Bray photo I have is from around 1897 of a man born 1868...

Thanks! Sadly it seems that none of her children are mentioned in any online genealogies making things a bit trickier...

I'll have to see what a combination of the 1911 and marriage records throws up...

Crosby born boy here, too. Hello.

I can't remember the specifics of the record now, but will check next week. Either way, it's a C of E church though...
