Australia Lookups completed / William Wilson
« on: Saturday 29 October 05 09:16 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for William Wilson from Wychitella, Victoria. I know that William married  Mary Brown and that he was a farmer at Wychitella. He and Mary had nine children and William is buried at Wychitella, no headstone. He died c1902
His obituary says that he was Irish and that he had come to Australia gone to New Zealand and then returned to Australia. However, much of his life eludes me.
Following his death Mary moved to Bendigo where she died in 1924.
Her mother was Jemima Crookston and her father was George Brown. George and Jemima appear to have been scottish immigrants.
They lived at Ballarat with George appearing to have been with VicRail.
Hoping someone can help.

« on: Saturday 29 October 05 08:58 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on John Jordan and Mary Nagle
( husabnad and wife). They lived at Kilmoon in the early eighteen hundreds. They along with their daughters Mary and Bridget and son Donald, along with two other family members migrated to Australia. Mary Jordan (daughter) married James Shipman at St. Frances Xavier Cathedral Wollongong in 1848. We have a considerable amount of informationabout their life in Australia. Its their pre Australia days that baffle us.
Thanks

Essex / James Shipman
« on: Saturday 18 June 05 08:12 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the extended family of James Shipman. James was transported to  Australia in 1836. He left behind his parents and several sisters. They lived in the Hamlet of South Wield. James was transported for the theft of material at Brentwood. He, his brother William and their brother in law Samuel rush were known as the Brentwood Gang.
Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for the family of Charles Cowdle. Charles was transported to Australia on the Grenada in 1818. I know nothing about his family but his convict record states that he came from Bermondsey.

Donegal / Sarah Griffiths
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 11:21 BST (UK)  »
Sarah Griffith migrated to Australia on the Caribou as a beneficiary of the Donegal Relief Fund in 1859. Her Father William and her mother Mary (Cannon) remained in Ireland. Their place of residence is said to be Torman or is that Terman and their native place was said to be Londerry County Donegal. Can anyone tell me where Torman was? Any news on the Griffith or Cannon families would be much appreciated.
Sarah's obituary said that she had resided in Carrowcannon House in Donegal. I have today found an add for the sale of Carrowcannon House and would be interested in any news of the history of same. I feel that perhaps the family may have been evicted from this house if they ever really lived there. The fact that Sarah came to Australia courtesy of the Donegal Relief fund to me indicates that they were not exactly flush with funds and therefore Carrowcannon House would have been well and truly beyond their means.
