Australia / Patrick O'DOCHARTY Mary McGUINNES/MAGENNIS
« on: Wednesday 30 May 12 10:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
I'm trying to find Patrick O'Docharty. Patrick and his wife Mary nee Magennis arrived in Australia on board the Nepaul from England in 1855. He had married Mary Magennis/McGuinness in Renfrewshire Scotland in c1852. Mary had originally been born in Kings County Ireland in c1833. She died at Mt Keira near Wollongong in 1857. Her parents were Stephen and Margaret McGuinness.
Margaret and three of her other children also came to Australia Ellen, Elizabeth and John. Ellen and Elizabeth earlier than Margaret and John.
I assume Mary must have gone to Scotland to escape the famine. A search of TROVE has found no death notices on either Mary or Patrick. The NSW BDM does not mention a remarriage nor a death for Patrick under various spellings.   I have death and marriages for Mary's siblings and mother but nothing for Patrick O'Docharty. Nothing on the IGI either that I could see.
Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
Regards
Wren.

Meath / Jane Robinson Old Castle
« on: Wednesday 25 April 12 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
I'm looking for Jane Robinson who I believe came from Oldcastle County Meath. She arrived in Sydney Australia on board the Tipoo Saib in July 1850. She was one of the Irish Orphans. She was 18 at the time of her arrival a farm servant a Roman Catholic and could read. Any suggestions as to how I would go about looking for her family would be gratefully appreciated. Jane said that at the time of sailing her parents were both dead. Their names had been George and Mary.

My ggg grandmother was Jane Crowder nee Robinson married in Mudgee NSW in 1854 to Charles W Crowder. As we are not certain at this point of Jane's history we are trying to narrow the field of prospective Jane Robinson's The informant on her death cert listed her husband as her father. So there are several dead ends and inaccuracies on the cert.
Our Jane died at Wellington in 1914.
Many Thanks

Australia / George William Edward SHAW
« on: Sunday 29 January 12 06:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I am looking for the arrival in Australia of George William Edward Shaw. George had been born to George Shaw and Jane Horner in Leeds in 1874. At the age of 8 in December 1882 he was baptised as were his three sisters Hannah, Emma and Eliza. The three girls came to Australia on board The Allanshaw in 1883. However George does not appear to be on the shipping register.
George married twice the first time he married Eliza/ Minnie Stapleton in Victoria in 1894. Following Minnie's death in Sydney in 1907 he then married Henrietta Makin in Sydney in 1913. I have searched for George's arrival in shipping registers in both NSW and Victoria to no avail. Any ideas of where I might go to next would be greatly accepted.
Many Thanks

Australia / Emma Rosina SMITH/FISH/DAVIDGE
« on: Sunday 25 December 11 12:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
Once again I've hit a wall. I'm looking for Emma Rosina Smith whose mother was Emma Smith nee Stacey and Father was Archelaus Smith. She had been born in Bristol, lived in Wales and migrated to Australia with her mother, sisters and brother on board the Abergeldie in July 1884.
She married Frederick C Fish in Sydney in 1896. Frederick died in Sydney in 1907. She then married William J.S. Davidge at Petersham in 1912. Wiliam died at Penrith in 1922.
I am unable to find anything further about Emma. I have checked NSW BDM for a remarriage under Emma, Rosina and Rose. Nothing conclusive. I cannot find her on the electoral rolsl or under NSW or Queensland BDMs. NSW Archives don't appear to have any Deceased Estate records either.
Any suggestions for further avenues of exploration would be gratefully accepted.
Many Thanks

Australia / George Brown WILSON
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 13:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
I'm looking for George Brown Wilson. He was born at Scarsdale Victoria in 1873 and was the son of William Wilson and Mary Brown. He at some stage lived with his parents at Wychitella. By 1924 he was living at Boort as he was cited in his mother Mary's will as executor "Melbourne Argus  18 July 1924".
I have looked up Vic deaths 1921-1985- a number of variants Geo, George etc. nothing.
I've searched Trove- no joy. searched Boort, Wychitella, Bendigo all to no avail.
He is not listed on his brothers death notice 1939- thus I'm thinking he must have died sometime after July 1924 and sometime before 25 November 1939. Checked igi nothing. NSW BDM., Queensland BDM nothing.
Any suggestions of where I could check next gratefully accepted.

Westmeath / William Wilson Mary Watson
« on: Tuesday 25 August 09 10:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
I'm looking for William Wilson who was married to Mary Watson who I think lived in Mullingar. Their son William's marriage certificate, Geelong Victoria, April 1862 states that he was born in Mullingar that his father was a farmer.
I'm not even certain that they didn't at some stage come to Australia. Although a search of shipping has also told me nothing.
A search of the igi elicited nothing.
A google search also elicited nothing.
Any ideas of where I could search next would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Wren.

Australia / Ellice STACEY - NSW
« on: Thursday 30 April 09 10:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi All.
I'm having a little trouble proving or disproving this connection. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
My Great Uncle John William George Stacey married an Alice R Moss at Ashfield in 1930. NSW BDM.
No-one in my family remembers this lady.
Jack and Alice obviously came to a parting of the ways fairly early in the peace.
They did however have a son.
Jack's death notice lists the son as Mr Stacey of Kingsford. (Great help).

I could find no death for an Alice R. Stacey anywhere- checked divorce records nothing.
In talking to a distant elderly relative earlier this week she asked the questions.
Did they live in Mosman? Did she spell her Alice differently?
In checking records I found an Ellice Ruby Stacey having died at Mosman on 28th May 1974.
Death notice listed no son or husband only one sister and a niece and nephew. None of whom are mine.

I checked cemetery listings for the northern suburbs cemeteries that are online. No joy.
I could purchase the death cert- but if she's not mine, I'm reticent to outlay the money.
I'm currently stumped. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

Staffordshire / Waltons Stonnall or Shenstone
« on: Monday 26 January 09 11:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I'm looking for my ggg grandfathers family in Shenstone and or Stonnall. I downloaded a death cert today which showed that my ggg grandfather George Rowley Walton had been born in stonal ( spelling on cert). He died in Melbourne Aust in 1859, he was 42 years of age. His wife was Sarah Clewley and according to his cert there were eleven children to the marriage. Children Louisa, John, Charles, Joseph and James were all deceased before 1857 when George Rowley and Sarah Walton arrived in Aust with their other children on board the Ellen Stuart under the surname Rowley.

Some time ago I came across a baptism for a William Rowley Walton having been baptised at Shenstone in 1812, parents William and Elizabeth Walton. This all fits with my George Rowley Walton.
The use of the name Rowley in the middle name seems to fit. A further search of igi has turned up nothing.
Any suggestions of where I might go next would be greatly appreciated.
