Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Restore Nana Peggy? Please
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 19:47 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to tidy up my nana Peggy, pretty please? This photo was emailed to me from a cousin in Alberta, so I apologize greatly for the quality, and I don't expect any miracles, but if she could be cleaned up a wee bit I'd be very grateful. I love the work everyone does on here, you are all so kind!

I've not much talent in restoring but I just wanted to say I'm amazed with the work everyone has done on this photo, she looks so lifelike. Gorgeous! Well done everyone.

The Lighter Side / Re: How do you chose who to research?
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 14:33 GMT (UK)  »
Personally I get everything I can about my direct lines and then whatever catches my eye in the periphery may send me off on a tangent. My nan had told me about someone in our family who committed suicide in the woods or something like that. It turns out she was wrong about some of the details, the woman was murdered probably by her husband, but she is one of Canada's famous ghosts who apparently haunts a golf course in Vancouver and she was my nana's first cousin. So that was fascinating to discover. I think once I've hit a brick wall on all the direct lines going back in time I'll probably branch out into the sides and look for cousins or something. Unfortunately it seems most of my people were pretty "average".

Aberdeenshire / Re: John Black of Old Machar
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 14:07 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you everyone, using the information you all gave me I managed to get John's death certificate. I found his parents William and Ann. I got William's birth record from 1781 and found his parents John Black and Margaret Smith. (Another John Black to go with the other William.. oh yay). According to the birth record William was born 1781 in Durris, Kincardineshire.

I managed to find the marriage record for John Black and Margarett Smith on SP they were married in 1780 in Banchory Ternan, Kincardineshire, Scotland and it says in the record that John Black at mill of Bleredeyne, (in the parish of Durris) wishes to marry blah blah blah. So the problem I am having now is finding John Black's birth record. I have found two John Blacks in Kincardine, one is born in 1850 in Durris and the other in 1854 in Banchory-Ternan.. So I'm kind of stuck how do I know which one is the right one? The marriage banns don't mention an age of course..

Thanks again everyone for your help!
