Caernarvonshire / Re: Capel Galltraeth

There is a very good website called Rhiw.com were you can view the Bryncroes Census for 1861/71/81/91. I have had a look but there is either Galltraeth or Ty Capel which appear to be two different dwellings. Hope this helps :D

Hi Stonemason,

I have found a family in Llansanffraid, Glan Conway, which is about 3 miles from Conway, Caernarvonshire. There is a Baptism for David Roberts, parents William & Alice Roberts on  the 22nd October 1665 at Llansanffraid, Glan Conway. I have also found a Baptism for Alicia Roberts who's father is David Roberts on the 22 May 1706 at Llansanffraid, Glan Conway.
She could be your David's daughter, named after her Grandmother. If this is the family you are looking for perhaps you need to search the Denbighshire registers as that is the County for Llansanffraid, Glan Conway.

Kind Regards,

Ellenmai

I'm so pleased Gwynd found the grave. I can't believe I missed it :-[ Think I need some new specs! I had thought about going with a pair of secateurs and cutting away the bramble & ivy if Gwynd hadn't any luck either. It's so sad to see some of the graves are being damaged with the lack of maintenance.
Thanks for putting the photos on for everyone to see, I find it really interesting. I must walk nearby on that pathway at least once a week, a lot of the locals use it as a short cut through the town.
I lived at Lancaster Square as a child in the 1950/60's and it has changed so much over the years. Most of the accommodation is over the shops, do you know what number they lived at?
Kind Regards,
Ellenmai

Hi Rachel,

I have just been to St Mary's Parish Church to have a look as I live in Conwy, but no luck I'm afraid. Parts of it are overgrown with bramble so I couldn't get to all the headstones.
I went to Conwy Library as I know The Gwynedd Family History Society issued booklets on Memorial Inscriptions from the parish some years ago and I found the information there.
The Inscription reads:-
Sacred to the memory of Joanna wife of Robert Williams H.M. Customs who died 22nd day of February 1846 aged 36 years.
Also Anna daughter of the above Robert Williams by Joanna his wife who died 20th day of June 1846 aged 5 months.
It all seems to fit apart from the babies name which you gave as Hannah and they have stated Anna.
Perhaps Gwynd will have more luck and find the headstone for you, but quite a lot of them have been removed.
Kind Regards,
Ellenmai

I must have been having a senior moment there wrjones sorry, but thanks for looking.
I had thought of that possibility Carole, if so I don't suppose I will ever find them.
Every cloud has a silver lining, the Lancashire Parish Clerks site has given me quite a lot of info from another branch of my tree, so thanks again for that ThrelfallYorky ;)

Thank you Threlfall Yorky for the info. I actually work from Ancestry and the two trees you mention are  people who I have been in contact with and they haven't had any luck either. I'm sorry I didn't give more info on the marriage of Thomas and Mary Ann earlier as I have the Certificate, they married 7/12/1894 at Bangor, Caernarvonshire. That is were I got the information that Thomas's father was John Smith Iron Moulder. I hadn't heard of Lancashire Parish Clerks Online so will have a mooch on there. wrjones are we looking for the same John Smith Iron Moulder by any chance? A lot of my tree are people connected to North Wales.

I have found him on the 1901 & 1911 Census living in Conway town with his wife Mary Ann & children. But like you I couldn't find him on the 1891. I have all the information after his marriage but apart from his Military record I can't find anything at all before the marriage which seems very odd. I even bought his Death Certificate but it didn't have his date of birth, which I hoped would help.Thank you both for answering my query, I shall plod on and live in hope of finding them one day

Lancashire / Help looking for Smith family Fleetwood, Lancs.

I'm having difficulty finding information on my Great Grandfather Thomas Smith and his parents. He was  born Fleetwood, Lancashire 1875. On his Marriage certificate 1894 it states his father was John Smith Iron Moulder, but as he was in lodgings no family address to help. He joined the 4th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers in 1893 and was living in Bangor, Caernarvonshire so before that I can't find anything.
I would be most grateful for any help or suggestions as to what to do next. ???
Thanks,
Ellenmai

Staffordshire / Morris family. Longton, Stoke on Trent. Help please
« on: Wednesday 31 July 13 14:43 BST (UK)  »
My Great X2 Grandparents James Patrick Morris (known as Patrick)born 1849 and Ellen Paton born 1950 both in Ireland. His father was also Patrick Morris and her father Martin Paton. They were living in 15 Cross Street, Longton on the 1871Census having just married. They had a daughter Bridget born Longton 1875, but second daughter Mary Ann was born 1877 in Sharleston, Wakefield. I can't find any of them on the 1881 Census but I then found they had a daughter Ellen born 1882 possibly Longton. Mother Ellen dies in 1883 Stoke on Trent and I also found a child Margaret who is born and dies 1883 in Longton, mothers maiden name Paton, who could be their  child. On the 1891 Census Patrick and daughters Bridget, Mary Ann and Ellen are lodging in Penrhyndeudraeth, North Wales. I know what happens to the 3 girls after that, but can't find any more on Patrick apart from on the girls Marriage Certificates that he is a Labourer/Collier. I would be so grateful for help in finding any information on what happened to Patrick, especially locating the family in 1881 and possible help with tracing Patrick and Ellen's families before they married.
