... hi all.
Hoping SKS can help in 2 areas:
i). I have found these 2 RC baptism records (in Latin) at St Patrick, Soho Square for Maria GIBBONS
1839 - Maria Anna GIBBONS - father Michaelis, mother Martha Bodin
1837 - Maria GIBBIONS (transcribed at GIBB-I-ONS) - father Michaelis, Martha(e) Bowden
I have the images I'm just not sure how to attach them
.
I'm pretty certain (I could be wrong!) this is the same Maria and the same parents but why baptized twice?? Any thoughts gratefully received ! I'd also like help with the translation on the 1839 record as it mentions also a Nicolas Gibbons and Maria Gibbons - are these the godparents, sponsors? or grandparents perhaps?
ii) The family is on 1841 census, Michael Gibbons, Martha, Maria(aged 4) and James (aged 2 months). I also have the bapt record for James (Jacobus)...
As regards the family I really need help going back prior to 1841 and going back further than Michael Gibbons. on 1841 Michaels birthplace is recorded as 'in same couunty' rather than Ireland although it seems the area and other residents close by are Irish indicative of an Irish community.
Michael GIBBONS married Martha BOWDEN, Holborn 1834.
I'm fascinated by this Catholocism and Irish community connection in London and I feel this is my stumbling block to going back further so If any expert in these areas can help me with that I'd love to hear from you. I'm assuming Michael is an English Catholic rather than Irish Catholic but I'm confused!
TIA
Graham
