Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Re: Passenger List Lookup Request
« on: Sunday 03 August 14 14:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Thanks for all that, there is some very interesting information which is much appreciated! I knew a few bits of this but not the details and I suspected that they might be seeing George Stanley Jenkin at some point. I don't suppose you found anything more about Nellie's husband and Elena's brother: James Rowe? I am curious to know when and where he was born if possible and also a date of marriage in 1932 for him and Nellie, but searching Mexican records doesn't seem to be straight forward!

Thanks again, there is some very helpful stuff there.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Passenger List Lookup Request
« on: Saturday 02 August 14 22:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have recently started looking up an interesting family thread regarding my Great-Great-Great-Aunt, who emigrated from the UK to Mexico. She seems to have left the UK on the Rio Panuco in 1932 with a friend (and I think she married her friends brother out there). At some point, I understand she returned to the UK, however as I only hold a findmypast subscription, I cannot view the incoming passenger lists to the UK. Please could a kind Ancestry user help me to put this puzzle together and send me an image of the return voyage passenger list (assuming it can be found).

Her name is Nellie Rowe (Née Jenkin) and I imagine she would have been coming back between 1932 and 1985 (sorry if that's too big a time scale). She was born in 1891, but I'm not sure what her nationality would be listed as i.e. Mexican/British due to her unknown time spent out there.

If possible - I would also be interested in her friends return voyage who went by the name of Elena Welsh (Née Rowe) and was born in 1896. I'm sure some combination of search criteria will find something.

I would be very grateful to anyone that can help me as I am otherwise making good progress on this thread!

Thanks!

Occupation Interests / Music Examination Certificate 1929
« on: Friday 27 June 14 01:22 BST (UK)  »
I recently found this old certificate which interested me as it was presented to my Great-Grandmother. I knew that she played piano and violin as the instruments are still in the family, however I have always been curious as to her ability having not heard her play, and it is something of great interest to me as I have an interest in music and currently study it at degree level.

I understand that the grade criteria and syllabuses will have changed somewhat over the last 80 years, however, I am curious to know whether anyone can tell me what sort of standard this certificate would be equivalent to now e.g. against ABRSM grades?

Of course, there may be others which are yet to turn up - but this is the only one I have managed to find so far!

Thanks,

Europe / Re: Resources for German Family History Research
« on: Thursday 27 March 14 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Sorry to hear of your loss; I don't know a lot about conducting research first hand in Germany as most of the information I already have was collected by my father, however as a direct descendant, you should be able to order your fathers birth certificate which will give you this information. I would start by finding the local registry office (standesamt) for Darmstadt and sending them the information and requesting a copy. They tend to cost about 10 euros, and they will require you to send a document e.g. your birth certificate proving your relation to him. This is the only thing I can really think of, and I'm not sure what sort of time frame you would be looking at to have this done either. You may want to try posting this as a thread in its own right on here so that someone with a little more knowledge in the field can help!

Hi,

Would someone mind telling me the date of death and if possible who the executor was for: Moses Kendall who died in 1911? He is the first on the list when searching with those two values and he died in Lincolnshire.

Thanks!

Henning

Do not ask for look-ups from commercial sources.
Most commercial sources have strict 'Terms of Use', which forbid publishing their data elsewhere, so asking for such look-ups is also asking people to ignore the 'Terms of Use'.

That is the full photograph I'm afraid, it looks to me like it was one of these ones put onto a post card, but my guess is that it hasn't ever been cropped by hand as the edges are straight, and I kept the size the same when I scanned it, so there isn't anything missing.

Unfortunately, when the album was put together all the photographs were stuck in with quite strong glue. This is the case with all of them which is quite an annoyance as I'm fairly sure a lot of them would have writing on the back and possibly post card correspondence. However, I can't see any way of safely removing them from the album, so I suppose that information has been lost!

Thanks for the suggestions of the date. It would make sense that they were taken around this time given that her age has clearly advance a little since the last photographs, this would put her in her late 40's at this point.

I recently found a photo album that belonged to my Great-Grandmother and inside was this photograph of my 3xGreat-Grandmother. I have a couple of her already from 1891 and 1900, but she is clearly a bit older here than in the other ones. Bearing in mind until recently I wasn't able to find any record of her after 1900, I am curious to know when this could have been taken as it may help me to narrow down my research possibilities with regards to finding information after this time.

I would also be interested to have suggestions on her age at the time this was taken if possible?

Thanks!

Henning
