Suffolk / Vicarage House Mutford
« on: Saturday 25 January 20 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Would anybody know anything about Vicarage House in Mutford & Lothingland? On 1841 census it states the family are living in Vicarage House? Was this a workhouse?

Would anybody be kind enough to give me an approximate date of the attached photograph. It was taken at a studio in Gorton Manchester. Also am wondering on the age of the young lady on the left.
Many Thanks

Thank you all for your help.
Love the story of Ellen going for her beer in her clogs.
My Grandparents lived in the two up two down house with so many children, dont know where on earth they all slept!

Hello Stan,
Thank you for your replies. I was told the house in the photo could be 1 Wood Street. I have an Alan Godfrey map 1916 which shows the pub on Peter Street with the viaduct at the back. Brierley Street Street was parallel with the viaduct & Wood Street between Brierley Street & Brindle Heath Road. The house looks more like its on Brierley Street. I found another photo of The Cobden which shows a cobbled street which looks like Brierley Street

Wow, what a great story & a great strong woman!  My paternal Grandfather lived there from 1912/13. I have a baptism for his daughter in 1913 which states his address as 1 wood Street. His first wife died & he married my Grandmother in 1917. She was a widow, her husband died in the Great War. He had 2 children from his first marriage (his first baby died) & my Grandmother had 6 children from her first marriage & they had another three together including my late Father in 1918.They lived at 1 Wood Street until at least 1928 & then lived at Duchy Road, which is where I remember visiting my Grandparents. Do you know if it was a two up two down? I was always told there was only one house on Wood Street. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hello, I've posted many years ago about 1 Wood Street but now have a photo & wonder if anybody can recognise it. Wood Street between  Brindle Heath Road & Brierley Street. I was told there was only one house. It appears on many documents I have. On the photo it shows The Cobden Pub/Hotel on Peter Street & I was told the house behind the van looks like it could be 1 Wood Street. Does it look familiar to anybody? Many Thanks

Would anyone be kind enough to sharpen up this photo of my ancestors house in Kessingland Suffolk please? Years ago I had two photos of a man & woman cleaned up from the doorway of this same house dating back to around 1890's
Thanking you
