Ayrshire / Skeffington & Stories from Ireland
« on: Wednesday 22 June 05 18:12 BST (UK)  »
I would be grateful for any information on the Skeffingtons & Stories who came over from Ireland. I can't find where in Ireland they are from. They settled in St Quivox. William Skeffington married Margaret Storie in Ayr parish or St Quivox in 1835 or 1836.I can't find their wedding. They had a large family & on the censuses that followed their names were spelt various ways. Skeffington, Skiffington, Skevington. Storie, Storrie & Story & Storey.
Margaret Storie was born in Ireland around 1819 her Father was Thomas Storie & her Mother Elizabeth Campbell. They are both on the 1841 census living in St Quivox.William Skeffington was born in Ireland around 1817, his Father was Louis Skeffington & his Mother ? Craig.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1891 census look up please Derbyshire

Hi,

The following are the only Edward Bower I could find born in Derbyshire in your time frame:

Bower, Edward abt 1857 Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England Lodger  Birmingham  Warwickshire

Bower, Edward abt 1858 Brampton, Derbyshire, England Head  Brampton  Derbyshire Cab Driver
Bower, Elenor abt 1878 Brampton, Derbyshire, England Daughter  Brampton  Derbyshire
Bower, Hannah abt 1853 Brampton, Derbyshire, England Wife  Brampton  Derbyshire
Bower, Kate abt 1881 Brampton, Derbyshire, England Daughter  Brampton  Derbyshire

There's another Bower in Brampton who looks as if he's a brother of Edward and aslo a cab driver...

And a Wm who could also be a brother who is the cab proprietor and farmer and has a daughter called Alice

There's also this Alice, but not married to Edward I'm afraid:
Bower, Alice abt 1856 Pilsley, Derbyshire, England Wife  Pilsley  Derbyshire
Bower, Alice abt 1886 Pilsley, Derbyshire, England Daughter  Pilsley  Derbyshire
Bower, Charles abt 1890   Son  Pilsley  Derbyshire
Bower, George abt 1853 Pilsley, Derbyshire, England Head  Pilsley  Derbyshire
Bower, George abt 1888 Pilsley, Derbyshire, England Son  Pilsley  Derbyshire
Bower, Mary abt 1883 Pilsley, Derbyshire, England Daughter  Pilsley  Derbyshire

Do you have an alternative spelling i could try or a place of birth or a place of residence and I'll try again?

Many thanks for the info. You have now clarified something for me.. On the 1901 census in Chesterfield Derbyshire Harry was down as born in Birmingham. I couldn't find his birth or the marriage of Edward Bower to Alice Smith. They must have married in Birmingham after 1891 & Harry was born after 1891. They then moved back to Chesterfield Derby where  Tom was born in 1894. I will look again for the marriage & birth in Birmingham.
This site is wonderful!

« on: Tuesday 21 June 05 18:50 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help in a look up in the 1841 census, for Charles Adams & family. On the 1851 & 1861 census he was living in Baddley Edge, Norton in the Moors.Parish of Milton,Borough of Leek. He was head aged 39 in 1851, his wife Sarah was 38, children Charles 11, Hannah 9, James 7 & Thomas 5.
I think there was more than one Charles & Sarah Adams living in the area & I am wondering whether I have the correct Charles Adams senior & junior.
Many Thanks
