Europe / Help with Polish family history.
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 20:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,

I am hoping someone out there can I help me extend my knowledge of my Polish family back passed my Great Grandparents.

My Grandfather Piotr Golba was born 1925 in Czörtkow (now part of Ukraine) to Stanisław Golba and Katarzyna Jasiak.

I know very little info about these two apart from what my granddad was able to tell me.

GOLBA.

I do not know a date of birth of Stanisław or a marriage date for him and Katarzyna, although I know he died between 1924 and 1929 in Bartoszöwska (spelling may be wrong), and that he had a brother called Wincenty Golba 1900 - 1973, who's spouse was Anna Rubłowska, 1899-1969.

JASIAK

Katarzyna Jasiak was born 15 June 1888, possibly in Kielce. After her husband Stanisław died, she remarried Ludwik Wisła. She died in August of 1979, in Goleniow, Zachodniopomorskie, Poland.

I have no further info. I would like to find some records on these two if at all possible. If anyone can help me, please get in touch! :)

London and Middlesex / ANN SLEW - NEWINGTON
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 20:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello - I am wondering if, and hoping that, someone may be able to help me go further back with a particular line in my family history that I have struggled with for some time.

My 3x Great Grandmother was a lady named Ann Slew, I believe from census returns that she was born in 1805 in Newington. After doing some research I think I have found a Birth date for her as 4 August 1805 and Baptismal record as 9 March 1806 in St George the Martyr.

I believe from this info that her parents were William Slew and Rachel. However, of them I have no info and have been unable to find a marriage, birth or death record.

If anyone could help me here I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,

Keelan

Devon / KITTO
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 20:20 BST (UK)  »
Hello everybody,

Has been a long time since I have posted on here but I thought I would give it another bash.

I only have a very distant connection to Devon and it is through my 3x Great Grandfather, William Kitto, whom I have very little info about. I'm hoping someone may be able to help me find some info on his Ancestry.

He was born, given hints from Census returns and some research into his birth from other websites, in 1802 in Devonport. I believe his parents may have been William Kitto and Mary Ann or Mary Tink.

He married Ann Slew on 3 May 1830 in Kennington, London.

I am afraid I have no more info on William Kitto than that. We have family legends that somewhere in the Kitto line we have Spanish heritage but I am doubtful of this as a reason why I cannot seem to find further info.

If anyone could help knock down this brick wall of mine I would be immensely grateful.

Kind wishes,

Keelan

Montgomeryshire / Re: Genealogists in or near Cemmaes? Evans/Francis Families.
« on: Friday 26 October 12 14:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi both - thanks very much for your replies.

Gortonboy - I can see why you are confused. I am confused with the census return myself, because none of the info is correct and I believe that the householders gave the info themselves? Ages are wrong & year of Marriage is a lie also because they didnt get married. They had 7 children Illegitimately because I can't find a Marriage for them anywhere. The 1911 Census for Hannah is -

Catherine Thomas age 25 b Cemmes, Montgomeryshire, living Fauntain Nantmel Rhayader

Malijibic - that is the right family for 1891. Out of all of my family lines this is the most difficult one to research because the names are so common.

Do either of you know whether there are records held in a local parish church open to the public?

Montgomeryshire / Genealogists in or near Cemmaes? Evans/Francis Families.

My Great Grandmother Hannah Catherine Evans was born 1 August 1890 in Cwmlline Hamlet (sp?) to David Evans, a Slate Quarryman and Elizabeth Francis (Dau. of John Francis a Cobbler and Anne Richards - both of Cemmaes).

In 1911 I am very confused by the Info. Elizabeth is living in 4 Terrace, Cwmlline. She is the head of the Household, David having died in 1907. It says she had 14 children, 5 to have died before 1911 - yet i can only find 9 Children born. Also, the Census was written in Welsh so I don't understand how some of the other people in the house Relate to her.

My Great Gran Hannah meanwhile, is living in Nantmel in Radnorshire. She was apparently 25 and a year into her Marriage to 37 year old Richard Thomas, Hannah was listed as Catherine Thomas. Only, Hannah was 20 - living with Richard who was 47, a widower of 6 or 7 years. They were not married, that I can find anywhere. And Hannah was 6 Months pregnant with her first daughter Daisy. Was this common? To make up information to cover a lie?

If anyone could help me decipher this I'd be grateful, also if anyone knows whether birth/baptismal/marriage/death/burial records are available in the local parish church I would be interested to view them in person.

Elizabeth died 16 March 1940 in Soar Cottage in Cemmaes, I have been to Cemmaes once but wasn't able to find the Cottage.

Kind Regards,

Keelan

Europe / Golba + Jasiak Marriage. Poland.

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone would be able to help me find the Marriage for Stanislaw Golba and Katarzyna Jasiak. I don't know where they got Married, but a likely area is Kielce, in Poland. Their first son, Jan Golba 1915 would have been born there. These are my Great Grandparents, I would love to know more about them.

Many thanks,

Fermanagh / Re: Thomas Spratt - Irish Rebellion 1798
« on: Monday 14 May 12 13:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Hibee,

I don't know which side he would have fought on. I only know he was a Soldier, and it is only a guess that he could have fought in the rebellion. I am guessing as he may have been of English decent that he fought for the English, but it seems he settled and died in Ireland after marrying Rose.

Then again, another possibility, the Spratt's had lived in Ireland for Generations, possibly since the time of Cromwell. I don't know :/

Fermanagh / Thomas Spratt - Irish Rebellion 1798
« on: Monday 14 May 12 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My Great Great Great Grandfather was a chap called Thomas Spratt, born in Co. Fermanagh c.1803 to Thomas Spratt and Rose Durnan. On his Death Certificate in Campbeltown in 1868, his Father Thomas Spratt is listed as a Soldier (Deceased). Since at the moment I can go no further back than Thomas and Rose, I was wondering if anyone could help me find if Thomas Sr. fought in the Irish Rebellion of 1798?

I know that Spratt isn't an Irish Surname, so I can only assume that Thomas came over from England at some point to fight or make a home in Ireland.

If anyone could help me I would really be grateful.

Many thanks,

Keelan
