Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Family Search microfiche numbers
« on: Thursday 20 March 14 18:59 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry, the other post is me too - Probably expecting too much in the way of information re this marriage.  I didn't want to assume that the marriage and the census info were one and the same.  It's just the distance from Harthill - Mansfield and back when the remainder of the family seemed to stay pretty much on the doorstep.
Thanks for your input

Hi Carol, I am the 3 x great granddaughter of the Charlotte Cousins in the 1851 census.  Also have the 1841 census and Charlotte on her own on the 1861 census and a burial at Wales (nr Worksop) in 1866.  Trying to find a link with the 1823 marriage in Mansfield, this is why I gave no more info in original post.  I think this is the Charlotte Billam bapt 4/3/1798 at Harthill, daughter of William, labourer, but don't want to make any assumptions

Nottinghamshire / William Cousins and Charlotte Billiam married 20/1/1823 Mansfield

Can anyone tell me anything about this couple - who their parents were, where they lived after they married, how many children they had, even who their brothers and sisters were.
The witnesses at their wedding were Elizabeth Ratcliff and John Mark Sellors, neither William nor Charlotte signed their names and were described as bachelor and spinster and of this parish for both.
I know who I would like them to be so no further clues from me to muddy the water.
Thanks
Liz

No further forward I'm afraid.  I checked the microfiche for St Peter and St Paul and whilst it confirms the marriage there are no other clues.  The witnesses were Elizabeth Ratcliff and John Mark Sellors.  No occupations or names of parents or even ages which would help.
Looks like I'm stuck.  May try a posting on the Nottinghamshire Board see if any one can help there.

Tillypeg, Thanks for that, Parish Church for Mansfield comes up as St Peter's and St Paul's.  Should be able to find Microfiches in my local library.
Will update later with results

Help please - I want to find out about a marriage that took place in Mansfield, Notts on 20th Jan 1823 between William Cousins and Charlotte Billam.  The only reference I can find is the Family Search one which gives microfiche numbers 504077 and 504078. Is there any way I can find out which church these microfiches cover.

1851 census has William and Charlotte Cousins, at Harthill with Woodhall Yorks.  She is born Harthill Yorks, he is born Notts, Pleasley which is about 4 miles from Mansfield.  There are two Charlottes baptised 1795 - 1801 at Harthill and one of these is a Charlotte Billam bapt 4/3/1798.  The assumption could be that these are one and the same, I don't want to assume it's correct till I've checked the marriage details.  If correct this William and Charlotte are my 3 x great-grandparents and hopefully I can go back a further generation.
Thank you for any help with this.

Hi Mandy,
Lovely to hear from you, I am just over the border in Mansfield.  John told me how difficult he found doing family history as he was so far away.
I don't know about the red hair but my mum told me he left the family home and went to live in Manchester with a woman called (?) Joan.  Some of the younger children were in a home at Ashgate and your grandma Eliza was housekeeper for someone who lived at Temple Normanton.
Just had a look at the address on Roses death certificate that was 2 Heath Road Temple Normanton.  I never found a coroner's report for Rose, had an extensive search of Nottingham newspapers done and also the Derbyshire Times for about a month after but never found anything.  Just before Easter when it happened I wonder if it was new Easter clothes she was wearing.  I met up with your Auntie Lilly before she died, she could remember seeing my gran and granddad whilst they were at Brampton (near Ashgate) and remembering the crochet my gran used to do.
I don't know much about Arthur.  My mum always said he was the black sheep of the family but Lilly told me he had a lot to put up with as her mum had a lot of "funny turns" and he was off work a lot looking after the children.  There is a death registration for an Arthur Dannatt in 1957 in Manchester - whether or not it's "our" Arthur I don't know, there doesn't appear to be another that fits.
Got lots of information about family, most of your aunts and uncles and your mum were christened at the Crooked Spire (your mum was christened on Nov 27th 1926)
I think your Auntie Jessie was working in the sewing room at Scarsdale and mum saw her the day my son was born.
Well it's nice to be in touch, hope I can help you with more family history, and you've spurred me on even more to find if Rose and Eliza are buried together.
All the best

Hi Amanda, my granddad (Walter) and your granddad (Arthur) were brothers.  In the past I have been in touch with your brother John whilst he was in Germany, unfortunately lost all his details when my computer crashed.
Have loads of family info.  All researched from source.
Lovely to hear from you.  Are you still in the area?
