There is a marriage bond of a Ferdinando Burns, Husbandman of Harshside (sic) in the Parish of Millom and Eleanor Towers Spinster of Wonder-Hill in the same Parish dated 9th August 1759 at Millom, Cumberland.

Please can you tell me if you can find any census entries for Arthur Ellison, of same age as Arthur.
Lancs BMD entry also has death down as Arthur.
There are no entries for an Arthur Ellison or spelling variations apart from one Born in Birstall Yorkshire and he was still alive in 1891.  I rather think Alfred was mistakenly recorded as Arthur on his death certificate and the name on the death certificate had to match the name of the person being buried.

He died in the workhouse so you think he would have been there on census day, however there is only an Alfred Ellison aged 51 born Ince in Makerfield.

The full record for the marriage is online you just have to trawl a bit further down on Jomots link to "marriages (another filming) 1874 - 1878".  They like to keep us on our toes.  It is image number 668.

Richard Smith, 20 Bachelor, Pavior, Wood Street, Father John Smith Pavior
Mary Smith, 18, Spinster, Wood Street, Father Thomas Smith Pavior
Both made their mark
Witnesses: James Bushell Taylor and Mary Taylor (made her mark)

I can`t find it using a street search or a trawl through the enumeration districts, although I can find certain streets around it.  I have a hunch that these houses were still in the process of being built. The adjacent top of Anson Street was still not shown on the 1873 map.

Hi,

FindMyPast have her age transcribed as 35 not 30.  If you blow the image up you can see the 30.  The other marks are enumerator marks.
