« on: Tuesday 18 May 21 13:40 BST (UK)  »

Leggetsrath. Kilkenny is in St John’s civil parish
have you seen the Tithes records then Griffiths Valuation
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=tierney&firstname=&county=Kilkenny&parish=&townland=&search=Search
in the later is griffiths valuation https://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php
which has
Tierney   James    Cellarstown West   St. Johns   Kilkenny
see https://www.townlands.ie/kilkenny/kilkenny/st-johns/kilkenny-rural/cellarstown-west/  that’s the same parish so there maybe a connection

there were Tierneys living in St Johns in 1901 census even an Edward Tierney aged 64 living with family at 30 in Maudlin Street (Kilkenny Urban, Kilkenny)
see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Kilkenny/Kilkenny_Urban/Maudlin_Street/1449967/

there are only three entries for any Edward Hanley in the tithes Applotment books
see http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=hanley&firstname=&county=&parish=&townland=&search=Search
Hanley   Edward   Rathlee   Easky      Sligo   1842
Hanley   Edward   Rathlee   Easky      Sligo   1833
Hanley   Edward   Lackin       Kilglass   Sligo   1833
in case its helps location searches, although if very lucky one could be his father rather than your Edward

Ireland / Re: Edward McGrath & Rose Ann McGurk
« on: Wednesday 05 May 21 22:30 BST (UK)  »
I have a method using the tithe Applotment Book records, which are sadly split for genealogical work. I have made an  alphabetical index of last name entries for the 6 counties based on the parish listing by parish made by the Irish Genealogy Hub website which sometimes throws up both names of a later marriage existing in the same parish the odds of finding the two names in the same townland are even more striking . but could be spelt McGra
McGrath, Ed.-Townland: Kernan Year: 1834-       Tullylish-Down
McGrath, Ed.-Townland: Miltown Year: 1834-      Clonallan-Down
McGrath, Edward-Townland: Ballynaris Year: 1834-   Dromore-Down
McGrath, Edwd.-- Townland: Drumkee Year: 1825-   Killyman-Tyrone
McGrath, Edwd.-T: Dromore Y: 1834-         Dromore-Tyrone
McGrath, Edwd.-Townland: Ballymagaghran Year: 1832-Belleek-Fermanagh
McGrath, Edwd.-Townland: Kernan Year: 1834-   Tullylish-Down
McGrath, Eliz.-Townland: Portaferry Gardens Year: 1827-Ballyphilip- Down
mcgurk 160 and mcguirk17 entries had no match of parish in 6 counties with 177 entries in total
I didn’t check for McGra spelling

so you could try the same method forthe 26 counties  covered by the National Archives Dublin
using
 eg
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=mcGuirk&firstname=&county=&parish=&townland=&search=Search
McGuirk entries 28
McGurk entries75
McGrath, 1429 entries

You would need to copy the entries for each ten entries per page for each name onto a spreadsheet and eventually sort by county sort by county, finally only checking any further by both names in a county, then refining that to by parish and hopefully by townland and it mat still not be the true answer I think it has worked for about 20 missing locations in Ireland but even the record isn’t complete in itself, if you have two scarce names its much easier. I cant spare the time to do it for you. it’s a last resort for you. nevertheless i leave it with you.

among the 1824  1834 residents in Elverstown Burgage Wicklow are listed but when its detail is opened the originals don’t appear to have the correct year. please check the transcript and each original
Giltrap   Richd      Burgage   Wicklow to pay £1.8s.10p
Giltrap   Richard   Elverstown   Burgage Wicklow Richard pays for Mrs Newtown 1861
Giltrap   Richd      Elverstown   Burgage Wicklow Richard pays for Mrs Newtown    may 1868
Giltrap   Richard   Elverstown   Burgage   Wicklow
Giltrap   Richard   Elverstown   Burgage   Wicklow has date 186 looks like rubber stamp

some 20 or 30 years later in 1854
https://www.failteromhat.com/post1845.php  the giltraps are living just in two townlands in separate parishes in the county
Giltrap   Robert      Mullycagh Lower   Hollywood   Wicklow
Giltrap   Robert, Jr.   Mullycagh Lower   Hollywood   Wicklow
Giltrap   Thomas   Mullycagh Lower   Hollywood   Wicklow

I had no idea I would find so many potential locations of relatives, it proves your need for any other clue.
One could repeat the same search for Jane Hamilton seeking all  Hamilton (Hamilton has fewer variant spellings in my experience). and finding the small chance of the surname being in the same parish, and not unknown the same townland! would be lucky and a priority location to home in on first.   However in2. Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837 Part 2 my index of the Irish Gemealogy Hub listing by parish see http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/ has at least 780 entries just in the 6 counties
the almost single spelling variants are
Hamillton,Hamiltan, Hamilten, Hamitlon, Hamliton

So my conclusion is there are 753 entries for Hamilton in Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1837 Part 1 in the 26 counties. its a lot of work to sort 1500 entries back to county parish and even townland, that might produce nothing. so apologies over to you
best of Irish luck anyway
