Hello Aghadowey,

Sorry about that.

I have just modified the post, removing possible living relatives.

Thank you,

Galway / Thomas Raymond Grace and Catherine Beirne

Hello,
My second cousin, Thomas Raymond Grace (born 1921 in Glenamaddy - parents Daniel D. Grace and Ellie (Ellen) Glynn - married Catherine Beirne (from Connaught...)
I've found some articles about Raymond on irishnewsarchives.ie - his brother-in-law was Val Beirne - wondering if Val is short for Valentine??  There seems to have been a lot of Beirne families in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon and Sligo.  Have found an Edward Valentine Beirne on the 1911 census Ireland.

I have found death notices for both of Thoma s Raymond's parents (Walkinstown, Dublin) and for two of his brothers (buried in Slievemore new)  but Thomas Raymond  Grace(a jeweller in Church Street, Glenamaddy in 1955), I can find nothing on his death or that of his wife, Catherine Beirne.
Could anybody out there shed any light on the situation.

Thanks very much,
Deirdre ???

Hi Looby,
(sorry for misspelling your name yesterday).
Brilliant - found it!  Her mother's maiden name and dad's christian name
and occupation are included.
Thanks again for your time and help.
Have a great day,

Hi again Louby,

Have made great progress since yesterday.  Bought credits on scotlandspeople and found burial plots for Richard in 1942 and Jean in 1936 (that's the one you mentioned). Same lair, section and division numbers.
You said you saw some document with the name Stewart (her maiden name).  I can't find that on SP.  Any idea of how you came across that.  Was it a death record on SP?  Have spent hours searching but nothing's coming up.
Thanks again,
Deirdre ???

Hi Stan,
Thanks a million for that.
I'm an annual subscribor to Ancestry.co.uk
I know they have medical registers of doctors - not yet of nurses.
Will look into the Metropolitan archives.
Thanks again and have a great evening.
Deirdre :)

London and Middlesex / Lucy Rickard nurse in Lunatic asylums

Hello,

My great grand-aunt, Lucy Rickard/Rickards, born in Dublin
in 1859, became, like her father in Ireland, a nurse in the Bethnal Green
lunatic asylum.  (I saw that on the 1891 England census).
The story goes that she never married - makes searching for info.
difficult.
Would like to know where she could have studied to become a nurse
and also if there's any link to the Bethnal Green lunatic asylum records
to see how long she syaed there.

Thanks very much,

Deirdre  ???

Hi Looby,
You have just solved a mystery that has been going on for a few months by advising me to look into Irish marriages!!!  Bingo!!  They married in Cork in 1907.  They were still there in the 1911 census in Dunmanway - she being down as born in Scotland!!! 3 kids, etc.etc.
Thank you so much for taking the time to broaden my mind and horizons!
Have a wonderful day.

Ayrshire / Richard Fitzgerald credit draper Kilmarnock, Ayrshire and later Glasgow

Hello,
Looking for any possible leads or information concerning a certain Richard Fitzgerald (born in Lisbealad, Cork, Ireland in 1875).  With a cousin of mine, Anna (who is also a member of rootschat), we recently discovered on ancestry that he was one of the beneficiaries of his sister's will in 1932.  At the time, his address is given in kilmarnock, Ayrshire in Scotland.  Recently we came across his death cert: died in April 1942, aged 66 - address is 23 Priory Road in Glasgow.  Widower of Jean Stewart.
Informant is daughter Jean A. Fitzgerald.

What we'd like to find out is when he married Jean Stewart, when she died and if there were other children apart from Jean A. and eventually when she was born and where.

Have spent a lot of time on Ancestry.co.uk looking for leads but to no avail.

The slightest leads would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Deirdre
