Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: George Patterson Cruikshank burial site?
« on: Tuesday 23 February 16 01:42 GMT (UK)  »
G. P. is my 3rd great grandfather also through Dr. Walter Cyrus, then his son George Benjamin. Another cousin and I have been searching for a long time and have yet to find his place of burial. Would love to exchange/compare information! My e-mail is patstevens94@yahoo.com  Hoping to hear from you!

Oh!  Thank you!  I will certainly do that!
Afterthought!   I did find on www.familysearch.org an Alexander Cruckshank baptism/christening date March 25, 1723 Forgue, Aberdeen, Scotland with father by the name of Robert. Makes me wonder if the Robert with dates of May 28, 1762 was his son. Fits that naming pattern.

Thank you so much for your reply!  I am vaguely familiar with the naming patterns of different cultures, and they all contain that big ole "IF"!  In the IGI, there was a Robert with Robert as a father, but I am thinking the birthdate didn't look as promising/logical.  Will have to prowl that site again!  A few years back, a kind lady helped me on this line and she came up with an additional daughter for Robert and Janet named Jean christened ca1791.  I, too, fear that we will be stuck on this brickwall forever, unless we are lucky enough to unearth a cousin/family member who has more insight into this family.
Being able to see the original baptism images might be helpful, but since we both are in the United States, the only option would be to hire a researcher in Scotland, I suppose.  Might look into that.
Anyway, again, Thank you so much for your help!

I initiated this query back in June, and received so much great help, I am going to impose upon your good nature again while trying to follow through!
My cousin and I decided the Robert Cruckshank baptised/christened May 28, 1762 in Forgue, Aberdeen, Scotland, son of Alexander, (per "Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950" at www.familysearch.org) seemed to be a good candidate for our ancestor. On the same site, we found Jannet Paterson baptised/christened July 5, 1762 in King Edward, Aberdeen, Scotland, daughter of George Paterson and Jannet Murray. We feel very strongly on Jannet since our 3rd great grandfather was named "George Patterson Cruikshank".  Our 4th great grandparents were married at Huntly, Aberdeen, Scotland in 1784, so the age range seemed logical.
Now we need advice on how to go about proving or disproving this theory. We have no idea where to start looking, who to contact, except of course what we find online. Any information, suggestions, advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!

Thank you so much for your reply and helpful hints!  We (my cousin and I) are really floundering with this line since we have so little confirmed info to work with! Too bad our ancestors didn't name their children a bit more original to make it easier for "we descendants" to track them!

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for your quick response!
I live near Springfield, Missouri in the US.  So, as I said, this "International Research" is kind of new to me, since I have just recently traced some of our lines back to "the old countries".

Thanks again,
Patsy

Thank you so much for your reply!  This sounds totally possible. I am very new with researching out of the US, so please bear with me. What is the IGA?
I have found this surname with just about any and all spellings imaginable, so the small variant means nothing!
Thanks again!

Looking for any information pertaining to Robert & Janet Patterson Cruikshank.  They were married December 8, 1784 in Huntly.  Their son, George Patterson Cruikshank b. June 3, 1793,  emigrated to America before 1823. He was murdered in 1830 at Washington/Prattville, Alabama.  Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
