Armagh / Related to these WATCHMAKERS
« on: Saturday 27 August 11 14:15 BST (UK)  »
I would still love to hear from anyone who has any knowledge of the COCHRAN(E)'S or the BELSHAW'S in LURGAN, Northern Ireland in the early 1800s. My GREAT GREAT Grandparents evidently had a big family (like they did in those days)  so I am sure there are still Great Great Grandchildren still around, so if you are one, related to this family COCHRAN(E)'S / BELSHAW'S please get in touch.

My Great Great Grandfather made long case clocks which I am hoping to attach signed H.H.Cochran   Lurgan

Hello Kat,
Thank you very much for your message about the BELSHAW's. I assume JOHN BELSHAW was a Minister, of the Church. I have tried Googling him but can't find anything about him, I have also looked for him in Pilot FamilySearch but nothing there.

By the way which church are you referring to when you mention that JOHN BELSHAW baptised children there, so I could contact that particular church to see if they know anything about HUGH HALL COCHRAN and his parents.

Your message is very helpful, thank youso much. If you do come across anything else please email me on (*)   Thanks again,

Heppy

Thank you Shane for letting me know, I'll have to trawl the churches in and around Belfast, Armagh, Lurgan to see if anything comes up about a christening. for G. G.Grand dad. Otherwise I'll just have to give up in dispear.and perhaps never know who his parents were.

Thanks again.

a few months ago, i had had enough of trying to find a birth anywhere online of my gr x3 grandad. i had tried all avenues and just couldnt find anything. from his military records i knew his father was james, and that he was born county longford ireland, but i didnt know his mothers name and there were one or two families on the irish census that could have been the right one.
i decided enough was enough so i went online to order a birth cert, only for the form to ask me for mothers maiden name! arghhhh! i idint know that thats why i wanted the birth certifictae.

so i rang the longford office and asked for some advice, rather than giving me the details i needed to fill in the form, the lovely lay gave me all the details i needed on the phone. i now know his mothers name and his fathers name, his place of birth and exact dob.

maybe you should just try ringing the belfast office and see if they can be just as helpful.

I am desparately trying to find the names of my Great Great Grandfathers PARENTS
of HUGH HALL COCHRAN from Northern Ireland.

He was born 1805 and died 1879 but birth registration didn't start until 1864 so how can I find his birth details, I am sure they were protestents and I think his father may heve been EDWARD COCHRAN a watchmaker in BELFAST in the 1800s In Donegal Street, Belfast.

But who was HUGH HALL COCHRAN'S mother and also siblings.???

Please advive me on this,

Thanks,

Heppy

I wonder if anyone in TANDRAGEE could look up in perhaps a cemetery my Great Great Grandfather HUGH HALL COCHRAN, his burial. and what there might be about him.

He was born 1805. and married to MARGARET (nee BELSHAW) who was born
 ? 1812 and died ? 1890

He died 1879 he was a Watchmaker in Lurgan  and later in PORTADOWN.
